The carpark to this area is beside the American Cemetary exit. There is only a single path that leads towards the ocean and the memorials, you just have to cross a road. You first pass the memorial for the First Infantry Division. If you keep going then you end up at his memorial. This one has four sides with different writings over black stones. Each side also has a plaque above the engraved stone. There are two benches close to the monument, including one which looks out to the sea. The sea side is also where the Croix du Guerre is displayed. It is quite a nice memorial and really nice views of the beach. Read moreImpressive location to visit. Many of the bunkers are still intact and can be freely explored. For such a beautiful beach, it is sad to think of the hardships encountered here for our liberty. There's no museum or anything but there is a monument to the engineering corps. We stopped over on a business trip and unfortunately didn't have time to visit the official museum further south. Guess I'll need to come back!
