The 14th-century fortified Château in Savigny-lès-Beaune is a true journey into history, blending medieval charm with surprising discoveries. Nestled in the heart of this peaceful Burgundian village, where vineyards stretch endlessly, this château is far more than just an ancient stone fortress. It’s a real Aladdin’s cave for lovers of quirky collections, thanks to its owner, a passionate and slightly eccentric collector, who has turned the place into a living tribute to his many interests.
Behind these thick walls, you’ll find not just the echoes of centuries past, but an incredible collection of racing cars, tractors, airplanes, and even fire engines! Yes, you read that right. This château is a place where history meets mechanics. The racing car collection plunges you into the glorious past of motor racing, featuring machines that would have made many a driver’s heart race. The tractors and airplanes are a testament to human ingenuity over time, and seeing these vehicles in such a historic setting is nothing short of fascinating.
The château’s owner is an extraordinary collector, a man who, over the decades, has gathered a multitude of mechanical wonders, each more astonishing than the last. You could almost call it a living museum, where you’ll find yourself admiring both the old stones and the collection pieces that seem to come from another era.
The village of Savigny-lès-Beaune itself is equally charming. Its church, simple yet delightful, is a perfect example of Burgundian architecture. As you wander the narrow streets, you’ll feel as though you’ve been transported back to a time when life moved more slowly and authentically.
In short, the Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune is a unique experience at the crossroads of history and passion, where stone meets speed, and where every corner of the fortress hides an unexpected treasure. It’s a place that will make you smile as much as it will educate you, and a visit you shouldn’t miss if you love surprises and discoveries.

Read moreNever have I had such a petrol head experience such as this......out of the blue I found a motorcycle collection (I believe) that rivals the UK National Motorcycle Museum collection in a crumbling mansion. I was completely staggered as to what is in here, starting to degrade slightly as there is currently not much TLC going on. This collection needs saving immediately, putting into a museum where people who actually appreciate it can view it & proper maintainance & restoration performed on the vehicles. Rather than the coach parties that turn up at present who have no idea or respect for what they are seeing. This brings me onto the stunning aircraft collection, simply amazing & most rapidly degrading in the outside environment. All of these iconic aircraft need to be housed in internal accomodation to stop the rapid degredation they are suffering. My damage asessment is that the wooden fuel tanks & parts of the Migs have already degraded beyond repair. The external aluminium & Titanium skins of most of the aircraft are salvageable. The ferrous parts of most of the aircraft are also OK, but many cockpit canopies are rapidly delaminating & degrading. Worse still there are trees now growing over part of the collection, Causing further damage to the external bodywork. All of this collection needs rescuing now & put into capable hands. As I understand it the owner who put this collection together is now deceased & its clear things are going very wrong with the management of these irreplaceable machines. I hope the collections are not sold off into private hands, but its clear things are not going to remain like this for much longer, with the current poor management of the...
Read moreWe was pretty excited to go to this castle. We got there and it was 12 euro each. we walking into this building with old racing cars and model race cars I was missing the upkeep of this building. Like the floor or lamps on the cars to light up the beauty of these cars. Next to it was an old attic with a bounce of motorcycles stuffed together collecting dust and not even with information about what it was, year or anything. This was for every part of this museum / private collection. Dust was growing on the glass casting in every room with model car, planes, motorcycles and everything that had wheels on it. It was an overkill.
This place as great potential, the 12 euro's should have been used to have someone put a little love into this place. Put new bulb lights into the place, paint the walls that have water damage, clean the dust of the motorcycles, in the court yard set up a little bar, with the wine of the vineyards that surrounded this beautiful place. People would buy it. Simple little displays with directions where to go.
If you love old race models, and love for motorcycles and airplanes. It's probably well spend for 12 euro. If you're not interested in those things, or allergic to dust...
