I am so happy and feeling blessed to try some wines from Henri de Villamont near the Cote D'or/ Cote de Nuit Region in France. I went during early October 2014 on a rainy day and met Lydie (my host) for my 11AM appointment. I'm happy that I got to meet her; she was kind, patient, and knowledgeable during my private tour.
The tour started in their crusher and VAT room. It was pretty exciting because they were working on the grapes they harvested a week or so ago! Yay for 2014's Vintage!!! We then went onto their cellar in the basement area. The cellar was more traditional and had several rooms to separate the whites and the red, along with their Grand Cru, Premier Cru, and Village wines. The cellar was dark with bits of web and all the moldy charm you would like to see in Burgundy cellar.
After checking out their cellar, the exciting tasting began! Lydie had a couple of bottles open for us to try. It was really fun to explore and taste new notes with this tasting, love the taste of the different terroirs!
If you decide to purchase some wines, they can ship 1/2 case for 90 euros back to the states. It's not a bad deal if you don't want to carry a ton in your luggage. Don't forget, VINTAGE matters for Burgundy, so check online for the ones that are bad, good, and excellent. Till next...
