Royal Monastery of Brou — Attraction in Bourg-en-Bresse

I really enjoyed my look around this Abbeye. There was lots of information in English so I could understand and appreciate all the history. The Abbeye itself is spectacular and I was amazed at the level of intricacy of the stonework and the woodwork. The rooms that had videos playing were great. They were subtitled in English so again, I didnt miss out. The artwork on display was gorgeous and I had to ask whether all the paintings Etc were original.....YES they are. You are looking at history dating back hundreds of years. I even enjoyed the restoration room where you were given information on how they restored the stained glass windows for example. A truly beautiful monastery. The vast majority of the interior is open to visit for a small entry fee. Interactive displays and videos bring the history of this great building to life. A large collection of artworks, traditional wooden toys and intricate architecture provides a pleasure filled visit for all. Learn about the history of monarchs who resided here or see how the building was constructed and adjusted over the years. This really is the crowning jewel of any visit to Bourg-en-Bresse....

Very beautiful monastery with a rich history, unsurprising given how old Europe is. And this one has been well maintained, even hosting music and arts shows outside of just the walk around tour of the monastery itself. Obvious ongoing upkeep and restoration work is happening which is great given that this monastery is close to 500 years old. Doesn't look a day...
