Chateau de Saint Cosme — Attraction in Carpentras

I hope he shared some of the history of the original Roman settlement of Gigondas, the etymology of "jocund," the Roman "happy place," and the recently discovered cascading Roman wine vats there. The Romans saw the unique microclimat at the foothills of the Dentalles to create their rich red wines.

And, as for hospitality, our group was invited to share a fabulous lunch in their garden with the family. (The matriarch is an amazing chef, BTW) A memory we will always cherish.

Also, I hope Ms Yasmin Shahin (perhaps Iranian?) shared some of the ancient Persian history of the rich red wines of Shiraz along with tales of their great Shirazi poet, Hafez, especially with his ubiquitous wine barer, the seductive Saghi.

"Aye Saghi, bar afruze jaume e ma..." (Ahh, Saghi, fill up our wine chalice again...)

Those memories still burn bright.

Incredible. The wines are amazing, which is no surprise. They are also half the price in the shop that they are in the US. The winery is also stunning as well, perhaps the most beautiful I've ever been to.

What made the experience so special was the hospitality of the Barruol family and their team. They accidentally booked us for a visit during a holiday when the Barruol family was hosting friends (the winery is at their home). However, they honored their commitment and took us on a tour of their cellars, which date to Roman times, where we saw their personal wine collection. They even took us to the church and a walk through the vineyards. The guide, who oversees communications for St. Cosme, was fantastic. I could say that the best winery would be here but places without wonderful people, are just places. And usually I don't use Google to write reviews but me and my friends came all the way from Cambridge in the UK, last week, got to this beautiful winery, tasted the marvelous wine but the best customer service experience starts when Fernando talked to us very kindly and extremely helpful turning this trip simply amazing reminding us that doesn't mather where you come from as long as you have the power to inspire others with your effort to make them feel home.
