Grand Canyon Verdon Couloir Samson — Attraction in Castellane

A very beautiful canyon, tall walls and narrow with curvy rock formations! The clear green water stream at the bottom gives it a majestic light. It is a popular canyoneering place. The walking path from the parking lot to the canyon involves a steep road, many stairs, short trails and some long tunnels. Nice, a bit adventurous but suitable for families. Some parts of the tunnels are wet, so have good hiking shoes and flashlights.

There are several points of access to the water that are nice to stop by. If you want to dip in the water be aware of the strong currents and cold water.

Au pied du village de Rougon, les eaux bleues du torrent pénètrent dans le Couloir Samson, la porte d’entrée du canyon. Il s’agit d’un défilé parmi les plus remarquables du cours d’eau, un véritable chef d’œuvre de la nature. Ces attraits sont nombreux et sa visite ne laisse personne indifférent.

Au premier coup d’œil, le Couloir Samson ne passe pas inaperçu. Formées par un calcaire massif, rien ne semble arrêter les falaises verticales qui naissent en bordure du cours d’eau. Malgré cette dominante minérale, l’eau, la végétation et la vie sauvage ne fond pas défaut, dans une harmonie parfaite, ces quelques éléments suffisent à créer un monument unique.

On comprend mieux la place du héro biblique. Doté d’une force surhumaine, Samson aurait écarté les falaises pour laisser passer le Verdon, laissant à tout jamais son empreinte dans la roche. En rive gauche, dans une fissure de la paroi du Duc, un atlante géant de trente cinq mètre semble soutenir...
