This tour turned out to be a remarkable winery visit. On a spur of the moment, we scheduled a last minute visit and were ultimately treated to an engaging experience with AJ in a working winery. AJ discussing the history of the chateaux and tracing the family ownership heritage brings it to life. What really sets this winery visit apart is the walk into the fields where a science lesson in vinology starts with the basics of soil, a vine's growth and needed laborious hands on care, development into grapes and the harvest. All subject to changing climate. After the trip into the fields, we visited the concrete vats and barrels for the actual wine making and storing. I learned there is an art to timing the harvest, turning the grapes into wine then blending the wines for the desired taste and depth. Their delicious wine was the result of science meeting art. Through out the visit, AJ is delightful, full of humor, thoroughly knowledgable and very patient. She explained the flavors during the tastings letting us all feel the depth of their wine. I think the best part of the visit was the personal connection AJ shares allowing each visitor to feel the vibrant history of the chateaux, family and the wines. I hope to return again. This is a chateau worth visiting and a wine worth buying. We will think of Madame, the chateaux and the family when we drink their...

Château Cantenac – Where Wine, Family, and Passion Meet

While exploring the breathtaking Saint-Émilion region, our visit to Château Cantenac stood out as one of the most intimate and enriching experiences.

This family-owned estate, founded in 1870, welcomed us with open arms and genuine warmth. Our guide was Adrienne Jennifer Roskam-Cheung, known affectionately as AJ—a brilliant wine expert with roots in both the U.S. and Hong Kong. Her story is as captivating as the château itself: she arrived years ago as an intern from the University of California, Davis, and fell in love—not only with Bordeaux and its wines, but also with a member of the Roskam-Brunot family, whom she later married.

AJ’s deep knowledge and personal connection to the estate made our visit unforgettable. She shared the family’s winemaking philosophy, walked us through the vineyards, and offered insight into their sustainable methods and meticulous craftsmanship.

The tasting was superb—especially the Château Cantenac Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, a wine that perfectly captures the character of the region: elegant, structured, and soulful.

More than just a wine tour, Château Cantenac offers a heartfelt encounter with tradition, dedication, and a cross-cultural love story rooted in the vines. If you find yourself in Bordeaux, don’t miss the chance to experience this...

We had a great time at this winery and definitely recommend it to anyone looking to visit!

It can be tricky to choose where to go since there are so many wineries in the area, but we were looking for a small, family-run business with a personal touch — and they checked all the boxes. I really appreciated being able to communicate by email with AJ, and a huge thanks to her for accommodating us last minute.

The place is lovely, easy to find, and has convenient parking. The area is gorgeous, calm, and peaceful. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and well taken care of. AJ is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the wine and the region.

The visit was wonderful — we learned a lot about the entire winemaking process, as well as the place itself and the family’s history. We were encouraged to ask as many questions as we liked, which made it all the more engaging.

This was our first wine tasting experience, and we truly enjoyed learning more about it. The wines themselves were exceptional, each with its own unique story and character (we especially loved the “Madame” selection). The whole visit felt special, and a huge thank you again to AJ for making this such a memorable stop during our short trip in the area. If we ever return to the region, we’ll definitely come back for another...

An excellent small chateau. Requires reservations so make sure you set it up. I was cautiously trying my broken French during the reservation process with AJ and she entertained me throughout. Went there and while talking to her I learnt that she grew up in the SF Bay Area, effectively my neighbor - what the... I could saved myself the embarrassment of my poor French. Anyway, kinda laughed it off :). It is a small winery and as a general rule (IMO) you want to visit the small ones for your wine tasting - better interaction with the team, small groups and most importantly very good wines that don't break the bank. AJ was very knowledgeable - she walked through the whole wine making process and wove the family/chateau history into the conversation. Very engaging conversation, talked the various appellations, what it requires to get certified and whole lot more. Along the way AJ dispelled a lot of myth around the wine making process - she's a certified sommelier BTW. Very refreshing and really made me comfortable to ask questions, etc. After an hour long tour of the property, we went to the chateau for the wine tasting. 4 rounds. They were very good, some in €30 range and some €60. I asked AJ for dinner suggestions and she recommended L'envers du Decor - which turned out to be excellent. Great experience, highly recommend.
