Citadelle de Lille — Attraction in Lille

Me and my boyfriend had a nice long walk along the path around Citadelle de Lille. The place is so big that we both agree that it takes the second time visit to finish exploring everything.

You can see trees everywhere and it is beautiful. I highly recommend if you want a long nice walk. I am not sure about pinic here because I do not see anyone doing so. However, I could see it is a perfect place for bikers, hikers and runners.

We visited to enjoy a walk in a green space, and we weren't disappointed!

Very easy to find with clear paths and plenty to see as you walk around. It was busy, but the space is so big it really didn't feel it.

We just did a loop around the citadel building, but would have done more had we more time in Lille.

Lots of wildlife to enjoy. We spotted two Herons!

There were spaces to stop and rest, places to picnic and plenty of spaces for kids to play in various playground areas.

L'intérieur de la citadelle de Lille ne se visite pas, c'est clairement signifié dès l'entrée pour peut que l'on se donne la peine de lire les panneaux. Il abrite en effet le corps de réaction rapide, un bataillon d'élite de l'armée. Toutefois, n'hésitez pas à franchir la porte de la première enceinte, ouverte au public, et qui permet de voir celle de la caserne, aux armes du roi soleil. La reine des citadelle fut en effet construite par le fameux architecte Vauban, après la victoire de Louis XIV de 1668 sur le roi d'Espagne. C'est à cette date très précise que Lille devient française ! La citadelle, avec son plan en étoile caractéristique, fut élevé en moins de deux ans sur un vaste terrain marécageux - ce qui permit à Vauban d'associer tout un réseau d'inondation dans son ouvrage défensif. Il est possible de s'en rendre compte en se promenant tout autour de la forteresse. C'est une balade appréciée des Lillois, et des joggers le dimanche matin. L'ambiance est plutôt conviviale, pas du tout agressive - cela change de Paris ! En cet automne, les arbres prennent leur parure jaune et rouge. C'est très agréable. Une...
