For automobile enthusiasts, especially if you’re fond of long-forgotten brands for the early years of the industry, this museum is a treasure trove. The more recent additions, have more recent models, and even tram and funicular carts! The palace is also pretty but it’s contents have been emptied and filled with cars, bikes, motorbikes and other related trinkets.
The only museum where Hitler’s car can be seen parked next to a decommissioned Pope mobile!
The access to the parking lot has been somewhat modified and we ended up taking a bit of a hike to get there due to some Google Maps/Waze mishaps. So be sure to research this in advance!

Read moreThe Château and the museum are one and the same place. You pay at the Château to obtain a ticket for the other automobile halls. It is an eclectic display. Most are vehicles produced in the Lyon area. All of the displays have accompanying descriptions but only in French. The display in the Chateau is predominantly bicycles and motorbikes. The Château itself is nice to view, but don't miss the 9 minute video display about Mr. Malartre's life and how the museum came into being. It is not advertised in the Lyon Tourist, nor is it signposted from the main road - it is almost as if the City of Lyon is trying to forget their responsibility for it. (A fraction of the money lavished on the Musee des Confluences would have been enough.)
