Disappointing Experience – Far from “Chic”
I was truly disappointed by the “Picknick Chic” experience offered at Château de Crémat. While the setting and view were beautiful, the overall execution was far from premium.
The visit began with a so-called art exhibition in the gallery, featuring works by Philippe Katerine. Frankly, it was embarrassing. The pieces were vulgar, crude, and fixated on sex and feces. The overly pink aesthetic was neither artistic nor tasteful. One has to seriously question the judgment of the creative director who curated this.
The wine tasting itself felt improvised. When we arrived at the designated spot, nothing was ready. The guide seemed visibly irritated and had to run around to set everything up herself – no glasses, no water, not even a small piece of cheese to accompany the wine. The outdoor tables were dirty, covered with debris fallen from the trees.
As for the picnic, it was mediocre at best. Yes, the food was actually very good, but the rest? Not so much. Cheap bottles of Cristaline water were a let-down – you expect at least Evian if you’re selling a “chic” experience. The setting was not prepared in advance, and we had to wait quite a while after the tasting. Everything ran late. Only one staff member was there to handle multiple groups; he was constantly running back and forth, clearly overwhelmed. It was hard not to feel sorry for him.
In conclusion, Château de Crémat may market this as a premium experience, but the service was anything but. I would not return and cannot...
Read moreAmazing place with totally unhelpful staff. No answers on call or email booking. We came, and the lady refused us, that she has a group of tourists. We asked at least for wine tasting, but she refused also this. Next 30 min she was sitting in the shop, the group did not arrived, and we left without any drop of the wine. Typical “staff” approach. The owners can be shamed. ————————————— Thanks to quite prompt answer from management. I really appreciate the approach, offering visit free of charge next time.
Regarding to the answer to my email, answer was written after my feedback here ;( The problem is not you are closed on bank holiday, not improper information on website, but the main issue was the lady sitting in the empty shop for 30 min, without offering us even possibility to buy any wine. This was my headache. Maybe next time we will have...
Read moreCastle in the rolling hills and valleys just a short 30-minute drive outside of Nice. Built in 1903 it's not an ancient castle but has been in the family where they now have a winery and can cater to events. I took the wine cellar tour, the handsome tour guide took us through the wine making process they used, including the machines and metal vats for the processing stage. In a darker and cooler section of the cellar are the oak barrels for aging. You can see the splashes of red color staining the wood next to the plug where they check the wines' progress, which is noted in white chalk on the barrel end. I also had a meal, and fortunately they had a vegetarian menu. The food was tasty but not inspired, but did contain generous portions of vegetables in each course. Recommend a few hours here as there is also...
