Lovely fort and village with a rich history. I understand why it is the main attraction of the island. It can be full of tourists but it is set up to manage it. There are lots of art shops to visit near by and art exhibitions in the fort. The fort got bombed in WW2 so it was a bit of a ruin before being repurposed. There is also a regular market in town. Got married here, so, I might have a bias :-) love this place and would come to Le Chateau without paying it a visit. Love strolling here. I recommend crossing the bridge, going down the tiny stairs and the end of it, turn left (walk opposite direction from the parking lot basically) and reaching the pieceful beach there. And when it's low tide, you can reach LA Porte des pecheurs...
