A remarkable church. As you enter, you immediately notice how quiet and light it is inside. By contrast with the main cathedral on the central square, in Saint-Ouen there is not many people and, I'd say, it is rather empty. There are no scores of chapels, furniture, tombstones etc. But there are vast space, beautiful stained-glass windows and an organ. I would certainly like to listen to it played. An audio-guide, which I got in the tourist center, says there are performances sometimes. Such an awesome atmosphere there! I think it is a great place if you need to think in a calm place. Or, maybe, pray, if you are religious. There is a stand with post cards and CD's, with prices indicated. I decided to buy one of the disks and brought it to the info board. However, the girl there explained that I don't buy the disk from her, but go to the corner where they put candles and drop the money into the donations box. In my eyes, it is cute that they trust me so that I put there as much as indicated. Behind the temple there is a park with a fountain and benches. The temple is open not all the time (see photo with timetable).

A magnificent church that is no longer a church. I still have a difficult time wrapping my head around the fact that such a grandiose, magnificent building is sitting empty and being left to slowly rot away. It is now occasionally used for modest musical concerts. Many of the outside areas are fenced off due to the danger of parts of the outer walls and roof structures (including statuary and embellishments) falling off. Do yourself a favor and visit the inside. It's trally quite impressive and magnificent. Also quite sad.

One afternoon in May 2018 while we were in Rouen, my wife and I visited St Ouen's Abbey. My wife had read that the Abbey’s organ is one of the finest musical instruments in the world. The abbey is a magnificent structure. I was surprised that there were so few visitors.

While we were there we heard someone playing the organ. It was real, not a recoding piped in over the speakers. On display at the front of the church there was a stand with CDs trumpet and organ recording made in the church by organist Marie-Andrew Morisset-Balier and trumpeter Michel Morisset. We selected two CDs and went to pay the gentleman sitting nearby.

"Would you like to see the organ?", he asked. Next thing we knew he had picked up his trumpet and lead us up the narrow circular staircase into the organ loft. There he introduced us to the organist, his wife Marie-Andree Morisset-Balier and himself Michel Morisset. They launched into a movement from a symphony by Ernest Chausson that Mr Morisset had transcribed for trumpet and organ. It was a magical experience standing next to them as they played. When it was over Mr Morisset led us down the staircase (Thank God for the rope railing that we held on to! ) and hung around for a bit while Mrs Morisset-Balier continued to play the organ. Soon we saw Mr Morisset leading another small group up to the organ loft for their own private recital.

I am guessing the Mr & Mrs Morisset are on the abbey’s music staff. They like playing in this magnificent setting and supplementing their income with sales of their CDS. If you visit the church in the afternoon, you just may get lucky as we...

The Église St-Ouen is a beautiful example of High Gothic architecture located next to the imposing Hôtel de Ville in Rouen, Normandy. Once part of an abbey, the church is so grand that it might easily be mistaken for Rouen Cathedral.

The Church of St-Ouen is larger than Rouen Cathedral and has much less exterior decoration, so the vast Gothic proportions and purity of its lines make an immediate impact on the viewer.

Flanked by four turrets, the 115m (375-ft.) octagonal lantern tower of St. Ouen Church has been dubbed "the ducal crown of Normandy."

The stained glass windows, dating from the 14th to 16th centuries, are the most spectacular features of the spare interior. The 19th-century pipe organ is among the...
