Emmanuel Lopez Garden — Attraction in Toulon

The garden used to be quite nice a few years ago but has steadily gone downhill. It is now simply an overgrown dump full of weeds and a few palm trees. There is NO maintenance of anything, not even sweeping the pathways. There used to be labels on bushes and trees but they seem to have gone. Nobody is responsible it seems and no-one cares. Since it is free entry, you get what you pay for. Go and see out of interest but to call this a botanical garden is a joke and like most of the public place in this supposed 'parc nationale', it is a disgrace.

HOWEVER - let me add a really positive note. They organise a nature walk once a week or so. We went with Julie for around three hours walk to the south of the island and back. She described all the trees and bushes and plants and flowers and butterflies and was a mine of information. Really worth going and she was superb and it is free but we gave her a decent tip as you all should.

Just been back in September 2021. The place is still a dump and not worth visiting. There is, as usual, a pile of broken rusty bikes chained to their bike rack and they have been there for ten years! We asked if there were organised walks like last year. Without raising her head, the woman said 'NO'! No further info. Later we saw a colour printed poster advertising a single walk the previous week. Not two or more but a SINGLE walk and a colour printed poster. Too much of your money. Don't ask any questions about the supposed 'parc nationale' because the have not got a clue and care...

Sur moins d’un hectare, on retrouve des végétaux typiques du bassin méditerranéen, des végétaux naturalisés de plus ou moins longue date et des spécimens curieux de flore exotique souvent utilisés dans les jardins d’agrément. Vipérine de Madère, glycines, figuier de barbarie, yucca... et que dire des 26 espèces de palmiers venant des quatre coins de la planète qui ornent ce jardin.
