Very friendly staff at the tourist office. We paid 5 euro pp to see both little museums and the walls around the citadel. The museum about the painter was small but beautiful. I didn't know his work and I was very impressed. The museum about the fortification was all in french so we walked around and looked at the miniatures of the different fortifications but didn't really have any other information.

BUT the 5 euro is worth it's while when you tour the walls and fortification around the citadel. You have a alot of information on the little map they give you, you have beautiful views and you get a great idea of how it was back then ! We were so impressed. There were some long pitch-dark hallways without any light so that was dangerous but for the rest great tour.

Toilets are handicap friendly No baby changing...

Found this fantastic place while on our way to Mont Saint Michel from Denmark, and it was amazing. First of all, we never expected to find people still living here and secondly the stucture and mere size of the Citadelle is just... wauw! The stories this place could tell! It is so easy to let the imagination run wild!

What we found out is that is was last used i WWI and in 1657 it was defended for 57 days against 30.000 soldiers by just 756 soldiers, only surrendering after the death of the govenor.

Long story short, if you are ever in this region, go visit Citadelle de Montmédy, it is a fantastic and...

Only 4euros to visit this fabulous site, you need to increase your entrance price as it was fantastic and underpriced. The young man on reception was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable and was very interesting to listen to all the history. We could have listened to all his fabulous information all day! the beautiful ramparts and views were outstanding and we had a fabulous few hours wandering round and will definitely return. Another great plus was the little Spanish inspired cafe/bar where we enjoyed lovely ice cream and freshly made milkshakes and the barman was so lovely, friendly...

Beautiful place to visit. Went on Sunday with our two dogs. Parking is easy if you arrive before midday, after that it fills up quickly. Had a lovely walk round the citadel and visited a cafe as well as some of the wonderful artisan stores (the man who makes wood things, JK is incredible). Then a walk around the lower ramparts (down the steps next to the tourist office) and a walk around the upper ramparts (6€). Really relaxed and chilled day.

Peccato!
