I am a fan of castles and if you are like me you can't miss this experience if you're visiting Najac. Although this castle has suffered the passage of time and has had to be renovated multiple times the place is still authentic and allows you to imagine what life was like in this place. There are a lot of stories hidden in its walls and thanks to the incredible work of the people in charge of the place you can learn a lot about it. At the reception they offer brochures in Spanish, French and English for you to choose the one that suits you best, in my case I was visiting the village with some friends who do not speak French and having everything translated into Spanish allowed us to fully enjoy the visit. Even though the entrance fee may seem expensive, after doing the whole visit and seeing the incredible state of each room of the castle you understand that it is just fair. Read moreThis fortress/castle is one of the most impressive ones you will ever see. It's the location that makes it.
Sitting on a - at times steep - hill, you can see it from far away. And when you are walking down on the Rue Du Chateau (coming from the village), then it's just a sight to behold. It's picture-perfect.
It goes a good way down from the village....until it goes back up again to reach the castle. It's a fairly short walk - a lot shorter than it might seem.
If you have a stroller or a wheelchair it's quite an obstacle though. And the steep stairs and the cobble stones can get pretty slippery, even when it's not raining. So be aware of that and be careful.
We didn't go inside the castle - we had our Bulldog with. But the best sight of it isn't up-close anyways...it's on Rue Du Chateau when you walk towards it.
