Winery tour itself was informative and the guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The museum was ok, but not of significant added value.
The tasting and the food afterwards were a huge disappointment (see below), even though there were a few decent wines. To be honest, the Zigu port-like wine and the brandy were best. The ambiance in the garden is pretty nice, but the personnel is not overly friendly nor asking if we need anything.
- First of all, my wife and I had to order food before the winery/museum tour started (so they could prepare it during the tour).
- Afterwards when the tasting started, it appeared that our tasting menu included food as well. So we had way too much food. - Besides, the grilled trout was already on the table when we arrived after the winery tour.
- We got all the wines (about 10 different ones, including Zigu and brandy) at the same time, really strange. The info about them was given very fast and soon we had a table full of glasses, so you could hardly recognize the different wines anymore. The white/amber wines were getting warm.
- I wanted to make some notes about the wines, which was impossible as well.
- In the meantime the food was getting cold, for example the trout, since we only had to listen to the wine info.
Advice for Shumi:
- Why not serve wine by wine with a bit of information and take more time so you can actually enjoy the wines after each other with the food on the side.
- Recommend if and how wine should be paired with food.
- Be clear in advance about food included in the wine tasting menus so you don’t order too much before the museum tour even starts.
Advice for wine lovers that don’t want to get a formulaic/touristic winery tour and tasting session: go to a smaller family winery, there are plenty of them. I actually enjoyed Mildiani much more which is nearby. Down to earth, better wines, much more value for money, more informative specifically on the wines.

We came as a group of 3 hoping to get a tour and a wine tasting, the place is very nice with a lot of effort put into the landscaping and decor, but as a large factory winery it's clearly aimed at large tourist groups. We asked for a tour and tasting and we were told the guides were currently busy and should be free in about 15 minutes, this was no problem for us so we asked for some glasses of wine while we waited. After 2 glasses of wine I went and asked if they had forgotten about us, the barman was surprised and radioed the guide who said she was still busy and should be with us in 5 minutes or so. After 1h45m of waiting my friend went up again to ask and this time met the guide, who told him it was time for her to go home. So we wasted 2h of our evening, if they were too busy they could have just told us and we'd have gone somewhere else. To make things worse the 3 wines we drank while we were waiting were subpar. Luckily the next day we went to visit a small local winery, Sesikeli, this is a small family owned business. We received a very personal tour of the wine process and sampled their 3 products all of which were vastly superior. If you're part of a tour I'm sure you'll enjoy Shumi winery but if you're a smaller group (8 or less) looking for a more authentic experience I suggest you check out Sesikeli winery in Telavi.

We had an absolutely amazing time at Shumi!
From the moment we entered the wine museum, we were immersed in the rich history and culture of winemaking. The wine tasting was a true highlight, with a wonderful selection of wines that showcased the unique flavors of the region. Strolling through the vineyard was a peaceful and beautiful experience, and we loved learning about the different grape varieties.
One of the most memorable parts was the opportunity to cook traditional national dishes. It was such a hands-on way to experience the local culture, and the warm hospitality made us feel like part of the family.
The entire experience at Shumi was a perfect blend of history, culture, and culinary delight, all wrapped up in the national spirit. We can't wait to come back!

Beautiful winery with grapes, gardens, tasty Georgian food and wine shop. Open till 10 pm. Really interesting history and museum. Thank you Diana for an informative time spend. Tour guide is 5 lar per person. Wine tasting has many options we choose 4 different wines with snacks for 26 lar. Bottle of Kindzmarauli 39 lar. 1 glass of wine (60ml) is 6 lar. Dinner for 3 people around 100 lar. I don't drink alcohol and I had a wonderful time at Shumi winery. Based on experience of my wine loving guests if you coming to visit get a tour first, choose the wine tasting option and then go to the wine shop and buy a bottle of wine you like. They will open it for you right there and you can enjoy it with your lunch or dinner.

I love winery tour and learn about the fascinating process of wine making, especially Georgian wine that is known to have a signature taste that makes it truly popular.
This winery is very cute and homey which also offer a lot of cool pictures opportunity. The staff served us with 2 different wines for tasting and we were taken to the wine cellar where they explained how the wine was made. Made a friend with their dog pet too and stole a selfie with him.
They do have a gift shop on site, which I believe the best part of the tour a lot of guests are looking forward to. Brought a sweet brandy home. I'm a happy woman.
