No show and wasted our time multiple times. My partner and I were keen to experience Gio’s wine tasting due to the great reviews. The opening time states 9am-9pm. We first arrived at 5pm, but the shop was closed. A neighbour kindly assisted us by letting us in and after being on the phone with Gio it was confirmed that he would be there at 7pm. We came back at 7pm but the shop was again closed. Another neighbour let us in and assisted by calling him. This time we were told to come back at 9pm. Yet again the shop was closed. The same second neighbour told us to come into the shop and tried to call Gio many times. Eventually they told us to wait and that he was coming. While waiting another couple came and told us that they had also been told to come at 9pm. They left earlier than us as Gio had not appeared, but as this is a small business and due to the great reviews we gave him until 9:30pm until we left. 9:30pm came around and yet again no appearance. Very disappointed that he wasn’t transparent on when he would be back and in turn our time was wasted...
Read moreThe best wine and chacha tasting experience this side of the Mississippi. We‘ve been getting numerous „authentic Georgian“ experiences for our entire time in Kakheti, and they have all been great. This one is incomparable and I wish I could give more stars. We walked in and met Gio and his family, and he took us into what was truly an authentic experience in his wine cellar. His enthusiasm, expertise, and humility make this a one of a kind experience. Of course both the red and white wines were exceptional (I bought white wine to go, it was the best I’ve had after a week in Georgia), and his Chacha and personal variations of chacha with tarragon and almond were insanely tasty. When we read prior reviews about the authenticity we didn’t realize how true that was, you just go into his basement and get the best wine and chacha you’ve ever had. If you’re reading...
Read moreThe heat was unbearable in Singhnaghi when we arrived to Eka & Gio's. They welcomed us and showed us the room. After a while we went for a walk to see the great landscapes of this town. After coming back and refreshing, Gio offered us a tasting in his wine cellar, which is over a hundred years old. Entering this space was incredible, as the temperature dramatically dropped compared to the outside. Here, we tried Gio's house white and red wines, both dry and easy to drink, perfect for any meal. After this, we had some "chacha" (grape firewater similar to Pisco/grappa), between 50 and 60°. The last drink was a 7 year old brandy from the house with notes of vanilla and almonds. I can only recommend this experience in you are ever in this...
