As an American visiting this place, it was an amazing experience. I walked/hiked/jogged from Baden-Baden and had no issues with the signage in German nor the maps online to find this area. This place was public/free access… aka no fees/charges for entry. I highly recommend going in the morning so you can look out over the area and see the mist, clouds, hear the bells from Baden-Baden, etc. There’s also food carts near the entrance with food and beverages, as well as a play area for children. The hike from Baden-Baden wasn’t that bad either. I went solo and had no difficulty finding the place nor did I feel like I was lost or anything like that. It did get rather quiet along the gravel path between the town and the area leading up to the castle ruins, but it was very peaceful. I would go back in a heartbeat. I went super early in the morning before anything was open/attended and had no problems or issues getting in as it appeared to be open regardless in the morning hours. If going here from town on foot like me, I recommend...
Read moreOne of the most underrated castle ruins in Baden-Baden. This castle ruin is not even stated as the first few attractions in trip advisor. When you search for attractions in Baden-Baden you encounter different spa treatment baths. Even to some extent the Merkurbahn. Well, I have to say that there are places around Baden-Baden like the Hohenbaden which highlight the hidden beauty this region upholds.
The castle ruins is located at around 3-4kms hike from the Baden-Baden city center. You can alternatively take a bus and get down at a stop near Ebersteinburg kapelle and walk another 2.5 kms from there. The castle itself is free. The view from the top is really mesmerizing. If you decided to drive there is a road. My recommendation is that if you decide to drive try to get there before the sunset for an amazing view. If not, hike early otherwise the woods are really dark and not much street lights along the way. The hike trails a bit steep and also you get to see a...
Read moreA beautiful old building with an amazing panoramic view from the multiple levels it offers its visitors to gaze upon the surrounding valleys from. Currently the castle is undergoing restoration works and some of the finished work is made in a way that is visually not properly integrated into the architecture (e.g. the toilets and the restaurant). Sadly during my travels across almost 30 European countries this is more of a status quo then an exception. Nonetheless it is a location worth visiting, with a lot of history to dive into. The area around the castle is covered with thick forest. Nearby there is a relatively new church (Bernharduskapelle), a natural spring with cold, drinkable water and two (one close to the castle and the other on the way to it, close to Weißer Stein) observation decks. A paved road leads to the castle offering people, who are less fond to walk up the hill, an...
