Well, this one is difficult to find words for. This was a holy lost place once. Someone decided to buy it and turn it into a weird mix of a theme park, a sight and history entertainment.
So does it work out? Well, it depends...
First of all, everything is expensive. I wouldn’t dare to say overpriced, but it is absolutely expensive. The food, the drinks, even bottled water is very pricey. I don’t like that. It feels like a ripoff in the middle of nowhere.
On the other hand, the quality is good. The food tastes alright, and the drinks are really cold. The portions are okay, too, and they don’t charge extra for the toilets. I appreciate that.
The new path over the trees is absolutely not worth it. It’s too short and it’s kind of meaningless. Apart from the nice terraces and the beautiful view, there is really no reason why it should be placed on this particular area. It really is out of context.
The guides tours are okay, but I’m easily disgusted by all the simpletons who feel like real explorers, the fences, the helmets, more fences and barriers. It’s made for everyone, but making it for everyone has actually turned it into an abomination of what it had been.
You may want to visit the place in order to be part of the movie, get your immersive experience, but you more feel like you’re on a movie set. You realize that everything is staged and artificial, and it won’t come back. This is not creation, this is...
Read moreIf you are someone like me who is in love with abandoned buildings, this is the place for you. It is located around 1 hour south of Berlin in Beelitz. I spent one of my favorite day trips ever there. The place consists of a few sections, it is huge. This place was abandoned after WWII, it was an isolation camp for the working population of the imperial capital Berlin to recover from Tuberculosis. There's a unique tree top path to walk around the premises of the different buildings. However if you want to check the inside of the buildings, you need to book a separate ticket for each that cost extra and doing a guided tour is the only way to check these buildings out
Guided tours available: Alpenhaus - 1hr Three Buildings Tour (Women pavilion, Cook house, surgical ward) - 1.5hr, recommended! Old surgery building - 1hr
I recommend to get the entrance ticket and book at least one of the guided tours to get to see the inside of the building. Doing all of them is time and money consuming so I recommend doing the three buildings tour to see the most of everything. I am giving four stars because the tours are only in German and the prices are quite expensive in my own opinion and the food options are very limited. Otherwise I am actually looking forward to go again with more...
Read moreSoo I really liked Baum & Zeit and it would’ve been a convincing 5 stars had it not been for a couple of small critiques. The Baumkronenpfad was pretty cool, we had a lot of fun walking along it, the missus liked the Riesenhängematte (pictured) as did I. We learnt a thing or two along the way about various tree species and the history of the abandoned buildings with the help of the plaques, was still very pleasant even though many of the trees obviously didn’t have leaves. We got some soup and chips from the canteen both of which tasted pretty good HOWEVER (first critique), charging for sauce when you sell chips is insaaanely lame and an instant vibe-kill, so pleeeease please stop charging for sauce. My only other critique was the entry price, maybe this is already the case but it really seems like it should’ve been slightly cheaper in the winter when most of the trees are bare. As nice as it was I didn’t feel I was getting ‘the full quintessential Baumkronenpfad experience’, and so €13 felt a bit expensive. However BIG PICTURE, I had a really nice time at Baum & Zeit and would like to go again in Spring/Summer, i‘d also definitely recommend to people, buuut just be aware it’s a bit expensive to get in and yeah they’re charging for mayo...
