This place is huge. The first thing I did was go to the wrong entrance and walk around for 15 minutes to find the correct one. There's no easy way to get around aside from walking, or taking a taxi. Buses are there, but it's unclear if it cost money to use them, or where they are going exactly.
The buildings themselves are nice: modern and functioning air conditioning, glad for. Fancy looking overall. Some areas are hexagonal, which is elegant, but kinda terrible for finding your way around or setting up tables for a crowd. Sadly, the internet is also atrocious. Bathrooms have huge queues and aren't large enough to handle 30,000 visitors. They did, however, not run or of toilet paper.
There are fixed restaurants in the buildings, but literally none of them had vegan (or gluten free) options. If you searched hard, you'd find one or two vegetarian dishes. It's also impossible to find coffee with alternatives like soy or almond milk. I was lucky to find a food truck hired by the event that had vegan food available. In the future I'll pack my lunch beforehand.
I was torn between 2 and 3 stars, but my experience overall has not improved over the last 10 years I've been coming here for work. Still get lost in the halls, still get grumpy unhelpful bus drivers and restaurant staff, still no food aside from Pizza , Chinese noodles and...
Read moreThis exhibition hall is about the largest i have seen, this event i went to was a yacht and boat and other water craft and all things to do with water. Including floating homes built on lakes or holiday sites. The hall is so ideally situated that is can have large yachts as large as 35 to 40 meters brought from the port which is nearby and i reckon that the hall size is so large, they also bring the airplanes from the nearby airport. There were some 27 odd display halls within this vicinity. For the boat and yacht show i was only able to visit about 16 or 17 halls in the 2 and a half day i spent there and i was not able to see the rest of the items displayed in the remaining halls. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here as it was only a 85 minutes flight from London City Airport to Dusseldorf Airport, my hotel is only 5 minutes walk from the airport Hotel Maritim which had lovely big rooms, infact and i could see the airplane parked by the boarding skybridge from bedroom. I could not have chosen a better place to stay for visiting the Messe Hall which was a taxi ride for 16 euros about 4 .5 km away. I chose this hotel as i wanted to be able to get to the Airport early morning so i don't miss my flight...
Read moreAttended the DRUPA printing fair. The Messe is great for fairs but this year the turnout seemed very low and many European firms were missing. On the other hand there were many more Chinese, Indian and Asian firms represented which was good. One remark I’d like to add is that on MANY of these stands the level of English spoken was very basic, and sometimes with thick accents making communication difficult which is a pity as many had very interesting machinery and some very innovative ideas. On a different note aimed at the DRUPA management, you really need to improve a few things. From my personal experience, you need much more public seating in the open spaces, you need to publish the route and clearly signpost where the coach which takes you to the halls runs. Food and drink inside the fair was really expensive and the quality and portions weren’t great. Considering that every visitor in there has to eat and drink and also how expensive the tickets are you should really put in more effort to ensure quality and reasonable prices. Also the empty spaces normally occupied by stands could have been turned into public lounges. This was my 5th DRUPA and so far, the poorest and most expensive. You need...
