I am going to be fair and start off with the (only) positive thing here - the chicken souvlaki - it was average. Discounting everything else (as the non existence of something as basic as a tsatsiki that comes with such a dish - everywhere?), I would have given this a 3,5 star, but the below makes me wish there was a 0 star rating I could give.

As seating etc tech was done, is a long ceremony, i'll start off with the 1st interaction with the waiter. I had the stomach to ask if they had anything except Greek wine, much because I am not a huge fan of their of wine. The quality and bouquet can be debated, but as a fan of Greek food I am still to find a drinkable wine. My questions got an unnecessary long and fiery response, asking me what country I was from and if we had better wines than the Greek wine. Actually I do dome from a country with wines what people would globally admit as being of decent quality.

Anyhow, it all went downhill from here. We got served the 16,50€ chicken souvlaki with one boiled potato cut in 4pcs - nothing else on the plate. Apparently a tsatsiki (correcting me if I am wrong) that is always the part of this dish, is another 6,50€ getting to total up to a whopping 23€. A premium steak around the street is exactly the same price.

This was all delivered without as much as a "bon appetite" or if we need anything else.

We finished our meal, and the bill was delivered without a sounds or a question for coffee etc. As a social experiment, I tipped the waiter 7%, tip and payment that was taken without a sound or nod. We wondered if the food did make us transparent, but got assured later on outside this was not the case. In the same round, I also understood that the complementary Ouzo, is only part of the tradition in Greece, Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart, London, Barcelona and downtown Dusseldorf, but not here.

We left the restaurant walking by our own waiter, the waiter who served the food, and a 3rd waiter, all without a single "see you later //hope you enjoyed it", or whatever the greek equivalent would be.

I hope I have painted a fair picture - if you want the exact opposite of the above, with the food being a 5, go to Trattoria Mercatino 50m away. Yes, you need to book well ahead (there is a reason for it) but you will be walking out with a smile or your face and a fantastic meal eaten, for not...

Ein Sch…laden für Möchtegern-VIPs. Nach der langen Pandemie wollten wir endlich mal wieder lecker essen gehen und nahmen meinen Geburtstag dafür zum Anlass. Meine Frau reservierte 14 Tage zuvor einen Tisch bei diesem „Griechen“ und bat um eine etwas festlichere Eindeckung mit einem Blumenstrauß für mich. Vor diesem Donnerstag rief sie dort noch einmal am Montag an und erinnerte den Inhaber an diesen Tag. Der versprach sich darum zu kümmern. Als wir an diesem Abend dort eintrafen, wusste der Inhaber erst nicht, wo er uns platzieren sollte und verwies uns an einen zweisitzigen, 70 x 70 cm großen „Katzentisch“ an der Restaurantwand in der Aussengastro. Auf den bestellten Blumenstrauß angesprochen, reagierte er sauer und sagte zu meiner Frau: geben sie mir Geld, dann gehe ich gegenüber einen Strauß besorgen. Das haben wir dann abgelehnt. Die „Tischdeko“ war ein schief aufgeklebter Covid QR-Code in DIN A4 Größe, der von der meist gebrauchten App nicht erkannt wurde. Das „amuse guele“ bestand aus 8 Oliven, 4 kleinen, vertrockneten Scheiben Baguette und einem Löffel Tzatziki und wurde uns von einem unfreundlichen und wortkargen Kellner „serviert“. Die bestellten Vorspeisen (Oktopussalat mit Olivenöl an Essig und frittierte Sardellen auf Ruccolosalat) waren dürftig angerichtet – der Oktopus zäh, kaum genießbar und mit den unscharfen Messern schlecht zu bearbeiten. Bei den lieblos servierten frittierten Sardellen kann man nicht viel falsch machen. Die Hauptspeisen („Lammfilet vom Grill“ und „zarte Lammhüfte am Spieß vom Grill mit Paprika und Zwiebeln“) waren trocken und spartanisch angerichtet und wurden mit einem Tellerchen Kartoffeln serviert. Als vielfache Besucher Griechenlands haben wir dort so etwas noch nie erlebt. Zu guter letzt wurde uns eine horrende Rechnung gestellt, die wir ohne Trinkgeld beglichen haben. Wenn man sich das Publikum ansieht, entdeckt man die typisch, hippen Düsseldorfer Möchtegern-VIPs und Label Finder, die zuhause nichts im Kühlschrank haben und gesehen werden möchten. Easily one of the best restaurants in Düsseldorf. Quite simply Toxotis is excellent. The food is fantastic, I can recommend the lamb chops or lamb knuckle as a main and take your choice with the starters they are all great. It isn’t your typical Greek establishment as you will see by the menu. The atmosphere is lively with a great mix of people eating there. We were very impressed by all the staff who made us feel very welcome and were happy to help.
