I didn’t read reviews because it’s not like it’s a restaurant where you may or may not go, I definitely wanted to visit this place but I should’ve read reviews for tips. I feel bad that I didn’t because straight away after a few reviews I read AFTER our visit, people were mentioning what I wanted to say, as much as I appreciate the engineering of the train, it’s not what I thought it was. It’s good I guess if you’re riding it from somewhere else to get there, but don’t drive there and take the train. I guess I misunderstood what it was. I thought the train was just for Zugspitze, but it’s just the regular train that goes through town. So we got there and were a bit confused at first as to why the train was full and we had no seats. Not only that, but while you see some brief views, it goes through a tunnel for a long time, about 25 minutes for much of the last bit of the train ride to the summit and while I appreciate the engineering, I would’ve preferred taking the tram up to see more of the views with the lake. We took the tram down and by then it was so packed that we saw nothing. So maybe as someone said, tram up, train down. Or if you take the train take the train from the town instead of parking at Zugspitze and taking it there. Other than that, the views of course are spectacular so I don’t need to say what others have repeatedly said. Bring sun glasses for the Glacier as the snow can be quite blinding and at least for end of May, despite what the weather says, if the sun is out it doesn’t feel as cold as we expected it to be. Definitely a jacket but not a million layers like I put on my baby. I was fine with a sweater and tshirt. My older kids ended up taking off their coats. But warmth is definitely a personal choice and it’s better to have gloves and hats and not need them but we definitely didn’t need them at 10am despite the weather the previous night there being negative 4. Picking up our tickets was easy, there’s a machine by the parking register you scan the QR code from the email and it prints them right out. Plan for at least 4-5 hours. At first we were going to do two things in one day but the other place was booked out so thankfully we only did Zugspitze and that ended up taking most of the day. Taking trains, trams, going to the lake and seeing the glacier and summit, and also eating at the restaurant actually takes some time so I wouldn’t have wanted to book a timed activity...

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Rock Mountain, the highest mountain in Germany, and the experience was nothing short of incredible. From the moment we hopped on the cable car to ascend to the summit, to the breathtaking views that awaited us, it was a trip filled with adventure and natural beauty.
The cable car ride itself was a thrilling experience. As we slowly ascended, the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape began to unfold before our eyes. The sensation of being suspended in the air, gradually rising above the world below, added an extra touch of excitement to the journey.
Upon reaching the top, we were greeted with an awe-inspiring vista that made the freezing temperatures well worth it. The snow-covered peaks stretched as far as the eye could see, and the tranquility of the surroundings was truly captivating. The air was crisp and invigorating, making us feel alive and connected with nature.
One of the highlights of Rock Mountain was observing the lively winter sports scene on the other side of the mountain. Watching skiers gracefully glide down the slopes and snowboarders perform daring tricks was both captivating and inspiring. It added an extra layer of dynamism to the already stunning scenery.
For those seeking respite from the cold or a bite to eat, there were conveniently located restaurants available. They offered a variety of warm meals and beverages to satisfy our appetites and provide some much-needed warmth. Additionally, the presence of clean and well-maintained restroom facilities was a welcome convenience.
However, it's important to note that the freezing temperatures can be quite intense, so dressing in warm layers is crucial to fully enjoy the experience. Proper winter gear, including hats, gloves, and insulated clothing, is highly recommended to stay comfortable throughout the visit.
Overall, my visit to Rock Mountain was an unforgettable adventure. The combination of the magnificent views, the thrill of the cable car ride, and the vibrant winter sports scene created a truly remarkable experience. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast or simply looking for a scenic getaway, Rock Mountain should be on your list of must-visit destinations. Just remember to bundle up and prepare for an exhilarating journey into the heart of...
Read moreZugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany, stands at 2,962 meters. Getting to the top is already part of the experience: the Seilbahn (cable car) runs every 15 minutes, alternating between two cabins that each hold up to 40 people. The 9 minute ride includes a 'dramatic' midair dip that gets some gasps and laughter.
At the summit, it was just 2°C, even on a sunny September morning, compared to 12°C down at the Eibsee parking lot. So bundle up. The views are absolutely stunning, and there's a mountaintop restaurant where you can warm up. But watch out for the prices. A simple cappuccino costs €4.50, on top of the already steep €75 ticket.
Included in the price is the Gletscherbahn, a smaller cable car (holds about 30 people) that takes you down to the Sonnalpin glacier station. From there, you can either head back up or take the scenic Zahnradbahn (cogwheel train) all the way down to Eibsee. I didn’t crunch the numbers, but buying a one way Seilbahn ticket and returning via the train might be a cheaper alternative, definitely worth considering.
The architecture up top is also worth a mention. It feels straight out of a James Bond film, like a secret villain HQ perched on the edge of the world. You can almost imagine 007 skiing down the glacier and triggering an avalanche on his way out. Fits the vibe of the place perfectly.
One more heads up: Parking cost €19 for just 3 hours and 45 minutes, which felt steep. If you’re watching your budget, park at the Eibsee lot, walk from there. It's practically the same parking space. And maybe bring your own pretzel and Krautsalat.
All in all, it is a high altitude, high drama trip. Breathtaking views, cold air, and James Bond. Just be prepared, thick jackets, and even...
