Gorgeous lake that is definitely worth visiting! A very famous lake in Bavaria with a lot of people saying it’s got one of the best views in the country. I’m just gonna say that the view you get is really breathtaking from wherever you are standing. The lake and the mountains behind just creates a really beautiful view for the eyes. The lake’s water was turquoise color and crystal clear that it really makes a perfect reflection of the trees and the mountains just like a mirror. They said you can even swim and rent boats during summer so maybe you can try to visit during summer if you want to do these things. I visited the lake during winter, so I was not able to do these activities but nonetheless… it was still worth the trip. There’s a trail around the lake that you can take to see the lake from different views. They said you would need maybe around two hours maximum to walk around the lake. I tried to walk around the lake, but I arrived too late, so there was not enough time and it was getting dark so I had to go back where I came from but I wish I would be able to come back and finish the trail someday.

I took the bus there was specifically heading towards Eibsee from the train station Garmisch-Partenkirchen and I believe this is the most simple way to reach Eibsee using public transport. Although, just a reminder that the bus might only come once every two hours so I would recommend you to really plan your trip well and look at the schedule for the bus before going. So if you are planning to take the bus to Eibsee and back to the train station, I would recommend you to order arrive earlier so you can spend more time at Eibsee. There is an alternative which is the Zugspitzbahn (Zugspitze railway) which you can take from the other side of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen train station to go directly to Eibsee by train, but this one you have to pay extra.

Definitely...

Eibsee is a picturesque alpine lake located near Garmisch-Partenkirchen, at the base of Germany’s highest peak, the Zugspitze.

Formed over 3,000 years ago by a landslide, the lake is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and stunning mountain backdrop.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities throughout the year. In the summer months, swimming is popular, with water temperatures ranging from 20 to 22 degrees Celsius.

Boat rentals, including pedal boats, rowing boats, and stand-up paddleboards, are available for those looking to explore the lake. For a more relaxed experience, electric boat tours offer scenic views of the surrounding mountains.

Hiking enthusiasts can take the Eibsee Circuit, a well-maintained 7.5-kilometer trail that circles the lake, offering breathtaking vistas and taking about two hours to complete. The trail is suitable for families and casual walkers.

In winter, the area transforms into a snowy paradise, ideal for winter sports and serene walks.

The nearby Zugspitze ski resort provides skiing opportunities, and the Eibsee Hotel offers amenities like a private lake beach and wellness facilities.

The lake is accessible year-round, with each season offering unique experiences. Summer is ideal for water activities and hiking, while autumn showcases vibrant foliage, making it a great time for photography and peaceful walks.
