Did the tour today. Evan led an excellent tour. He seemed to know everything about Montblanc! As a fountain pen enthusiast, I thought I knew a thing or two about Montblanc but I learned so much in that 1 hour tour. I also found out why Montblanc insists on the term "writing instrument". Why can't they just call these things we write with "pens" like rest of us!? He told us why. I won't spoil you. Do the tour!
They also have a boutique that sells Montblanc Haus special edition items and offers bespoke nibs. Vu helped me get both (hmm hmm). He was extremely knowledgeable about Monyblanc pens and nibs. Without his guidance, I wouldn't have been to find the nib I wanted.
The cafe is decent too. They have a variety of coffee and teas and also serve food!! The seating area is super nice and comfortable. I didn't catch her name but the barista was super friendly. BTW they use real mint leaves in the mint tea! (This is for the fellow Americans)
I also need to mention that I had a great experience entering the building. There was the head of Montblanc Haus at the reception desk greeting guests. Kudos to her being on the frontline facing the guests and customers. She and her staff member (sorry forgot the name again) were so friendly and helpful I felt welcome as soon as I started talking to them. And let's say the truth, the big retangular Montblanc haus building looks intimidating, it is mesmerizing but intimidating at the same time. It was such a good idea to have the reception desk placed right inside the doors so the visitors can be welcome by friendly staff.
All in all, this was such a great experience. I own a few Montblanc fountain pens but I wouldn't say I was a fan per se.. but I turned while I spent 5 hours there thanks to Evan,...
Read moreI visited Montblanc Haus with 2 students and 4 friends on Aug.11. There was no ticket information, so I asked a woman with a pair of eyeglasses sitting at the reception. After I asked three times, she finally answered me with a rude and impolite attitude. When I zipped my credit card, She asked for me to put on my signiture. I asked, "with my finger?" She answered, "It's your card, you should know." with a very bad attitude. Then I said, "It's your machine, you should know." Because I used an e-pen to a credit card machine also quite often. I called my friends back to sign their names on their own tickets, because they were eager to buy things in the shop. A gentleman there was quite polite to recommand us to get a guided tour in the morning. Then I asked the same woman about a guided tour, but she was very unfriendly to complain that we couldn't understand German, so she didn't know how to arrange. Another gentleman suggested her to arrange a new English guided tour. Finally, I had to sad, "No need, I have had enough!" I actually also speak some German, so I could really feel from the woman at the reception, "Die Nase ist zu hoch." Although the other people are friendly and her colleague trying to help us. The exhibition is very good. It is still a...

As someone who's always lived very close to Hamburg, MontBlanc was known to me from a very young age. Nevertheless, what I've learned today during the tour through MontBlanc Haus and the manufacturing facility was simply inspiring.
How every nib is tested, how every mould is polished, how writing instruments are designed. I was especially impressed by how close one gets to some unique "jewels with writing functions".
Luxury good and artisanship at the same time. Tonight, I'll look at my "Meisterstück" with different eyes! All writing instruments of this magnificent brand are were, are and will be manufactured in Hamburg. Good to know! A must for anyone interested in the way artisans work and how a luxury good is manufactured. No photos allowed, though.
Open tours can be booked individually in advance and for groups special possibilities are available. Our guide Jana was very enthusiastic, competent and was able to keep our attention for more than two hours! A must on every Hamburg...
