Ever since I could crawl I’ve been obsessed with textiles. Everything from carpets, woven artworks and clothes have an magnetic effect on me. It goes without saying I had to give this textile collection a try. The ambience is big enough to give you the needed space to enjoy the works, and it is small enough to give you a feeling of intimacy and privacy. At first I was surprised at the emphasis on textile art. Guess I expected more clothes or functional textiles. But as you immerse yourself in the current exhibition you realize that maybe it’s your own POV that has become narrow with regards to textiles? In here textiles can be everything like visual art, woven portraits, stitched poems, personally embroidered batches and knitted veil-like curtains playfully decorated with patchwork. If you can spare an hour during a visit to beautiful Heidelberg, you should go. Das Museum ist zwar klein und die Sammlung nicht sehr groß, aber die ausgestellten Stücke reichen aus um einen interessanten Einblick in die Mode der Vergangenheit zu erhalten. Vor allem hat mir der Vortrag von Frau Dr. Scherer gefallen, ich habe viel über die verschiedenen Stoffe und Moderichtungen erfahren, sehr informativ auch der Bezug auf gesellschaftliche und politische Aspekte der Mode.
