Museum Wasserburg Anholt — Attraction in Isselburg

Ticket Price: 20€ per person. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance.

Not worth visiting. Although it is a beautiful castle, I do not recommend it for the following reasons:

There is no English tour guide or audio guide. After paying 20€ for the ticket, the visit feels like a blind tour inside the castle.

Only the ground floor of the castle is included in the tour. Despite being a large and beautiful castle, only a few rooms on the ground floor are shown, making the ticket price unjustified.

While I understand it is private property, if tickets are being sold, visitors should at least be allowed to take pictures inside. They could simply prohibit photographing the artwork or pictures on the walls instead of banning photography altogether.

The castle park is decent—large and well-maintained—but nothing particularly fascinating.

Conclusion: If the castle had free entrance, it would be reasonable to have these restrictions. However, charging 20€ per person while imposing so many limitations is not justifiable. The visit is not worth the price.

Castle staff is very friendly and helpful.

There is a parking area available for visitors, but it is also chargeable.

However, there is a nice café just before the castle entrance, directly opposite the parking area. They offer good food. For example, two sandwiches (egg and ham), two cappuccinos, and a small bottle of water cost around 35€. On our way back, we also tried two pieces of cake, one cappuccino, and one beer, which...

Well maintained castle with a large park area to walk. Can park your car near the entrance but its paid parking. Only way to view inside the castle is through a guided tour. Almost all the explanations are in German. Even though the guide tried to accommodate us English speakers, its not good enough. We barely understood the history of the castle. Tour lasted about an hour. For a Ticket of 20 Euros not even an audio guide. Only get to view Dining room, Ball room, Library and Kitchen. Cannot climb the medieval tower. And also No photography allowed inside. Reason given is that it's a private property ( then why bother issue tickets and let outsiders visit). It's called a museum but no information about displayed items are is available to the visitors. Apart from some furniture, one 17th century room, some nice 18th century tapestry everything else felt over restored. But there were really nice paintings. Staff is friendly and helpful but overall the castle visit was disappointing and not worth the money. It felt like a rip-off.

Ein herbstlicher Ausflug, der in Erinnerung bleibt.

Wir haben die Wasserburg Anholt an einem grauen Oktobertag besucht – doch von der tristen Stimmung war vor Ort keine Spur. Die herbstlich leuchtenden Farben der Bäume und Sträucher im Schlosspark haben uns sofort in ihren Bann gezogen und eine warme, fast märchenhafte Atmosphäre geschaffen. Ein absolut sehenswertes Ausflugsziel! Die Wasserburg selbst ist ein architektonisches Schmuckstück – eingebettet in einen breiten Wassergraben, wirkt das historische Gebäude fast wie ein Gemälde. Besonders eindrucksvoll ist der Blick von der Parkseite auf das Schloss – ein Ort, der definitiv zum Verweilen und Staunen einlädt.

Der weitläufige Schlosspark bietet verschiedene Spazierwege, die je nach Lust und Laune begangen werden können. Wir haben uns für die längere Route entschieden und konnten in aller Ruhe die Natur genießen. Die Wege sind gut gepflegt, immer wieder laden Bänke zu kleinen Pausen mit herrlicher Aussicht ein. Trotz der Größe des Parks wirkt alles sehr gepflegt und durchdacht. Der Eintrittspreis lag bei unserem Besuch bei 8,- € pro Person für den Park. Wer zusätzlich die Schlossführung mitnehmen möchte, kann ein Kombiticket für 20,- € pro Person erwerben – ein fairer Preis für ein solch beeindruckendes Ensemble. Parkplätze stehen direkt vor Ort für 3,- € Tagesgebühr zur Verfügung. Ein kleiner Spartipp: Gegenüber des Schlossgeländes befindet sich ein Rewe mit kostenfreien Parkplätzen, die wir genutzt haben – ideal, wenn man ohnehin noch ein paar Einkäufe erledigen möchte.

Einziger kleiner Wermutstropfen: Im Park selbst gibt es keine Toiletten, lediglich im Schlossrestaurant, das sich jedoch außerhalb des eigentlichen Parkgeländes befindet.

Fazit: Die Wasserburg Anholt mit ihrem prachtvollen Schlosspark ist zu jeder Jahreszeit einen Besuch wert. Ein Ort der Ruhe, Geschichte und Schönheit. Absolut empfehlenswert für alle, die einen erholsamen Tag in einer beeindruckenden Umgebung...
