I visited Meissen as part of a Viking tour. Having little interest in porcelain, I was fully prepared to loathe the experience. I was also frightened because I'm rather clumsy, and porcelain is expensive. To my utter astonishment, though, the porcelain making process was fascinating (and I managed to emerge without a hefty bill).

Meissen has done an outstanding job of making this tour accessible: our tour was a three-room series. When you enter one room, a live human demonstrates while a recording narrates. For our group, it was in English. You start with the formation of an item, whether it's a cup or the head for a figurine. In the subsequent rooms, you learn about glazing and painting.

To work at Meissen, one undertakes four years of schooling. It's a bit like porcelain college. Because there is less interest in porcelain these days, this enterprise is state-funded so the art doesn't die.

For those who have the means and desire to buy a $40,000 soup tureen, that's available. But there's also a porcelain outlet in the building.

All in all, you don't have to have an interest in porcelain to enjoy the process-tour. Anyone interested in arts and even science can...

Absolutely lovely place to visit! A hidden pearl of a place! When we were there it was almost no people but we got the most kind and considerate welcome by the staff.

The exprerience of seeing live making of both dishes and figurines, it was so intresting and truly amazing to see people do it live! There is a wide variety of languages for guiding as well! You never know how much work goes into making one piece untill you see it with your own eyes!

The museum collection is truly stunning, from the earliest pieces to modern creations. You can inspect pieces really up close, you never intruding, even when the objects are very expensive. What suprises us positively is the amount of fun things to do for children! Interactive games on screen, coloring station and even a real life figurine they can touch!

When we finished our trip with the shop, we were truly amazed by the selection and the professional and kind staff!

I cannot recommend this place enough, weather you’re a fan of...

it's a very cool attraction. tickets are €14 for adults, and if you've got a reduction, it's €12. first things first, you'll need to stash your backpack in a locker at the cloakroom, they've got free toiletsntoo, which is always a bonus. there's also a big porcelain shop on site. the best part is definitely the guided tour, which happens at specific times. you walk through different rooms, and the workers are right there, showing you the entire process of making meissen porcelain step-by-step. it's fascinating to see how it all comes together. you can also grab an audioguide in another language. after the demo, you're free to wander around the museum individually. they've got tons of amazing pieces on display, from historical items to more modern designs. definitely worth a visit if you're into that sort of thing or just curious about how such beautiful...
