Treetop Walk Saarschleife — Attraction in Mettlach

This is a MUST SEE in my opinion. Such an awesome experience. The reason I give it 4 stars is that for many reasons, the visit isn’t intuitive, at least for English-only speaking guests. Google maps wanted to bring me right to the tower, and parking was not where it was supposed to be according to the map. That said, it wasn’t a far walk so it seemed right anyway, though there weren’t many spots and the one we got was a tight fit. Bathrooms were at the parking lot which was great, and clean, but after that, signage was terrible. You have to access the ramp up to the treetop wall at a very specific point which is in the center of the glass buildings. The other trails go to various other attractions I suppose, such as the playground at the exit for the treetop walk. If you buy your tickets online, you do NOT have to wait online, you just go up to the barcode scanner and hold your phone under the scanner and it will read it, even if it looks like it won’t. The actual walk itself was so fun, with lots of interesting things to look at along the way, and the view from the top was amazing, if it was a bit crowded up there. The playground was well worth the $20 for the family. Bring food and snacks unless you want to use vending machines. I saw people with beer too if you feel so inclined to BYOB! Everything was...

Es lohnt sich, allerdings ein kurzweiliges Vergnügen. Wir haben den Baumwipfelpfad an einem Montag besucht und uns die Tickets vorher im Internet gekauft. Der Vorteil bei vorab im Internet gekauften Tickets: man muss sich nicht am Eingang einreihen, kann einfach rechts vorbeilaufen und geht rechts am Eingang durch das Drehkreuz mit dem Schild „Onlinetickets“. Das Scannen der Tickets über das Smartphone hat nach mehreren Anläufen einigermaßen problemlos funktioniert, ein Ausdruck der Tickets ist nicht notwendig. Ich habe mir auch nur den QR-Code gespeichert. Die Tickets konnte man bspw. mit PayPal bezahlen, man musste sich allerdings für einen konkreten Tag entscheiden. Insofern eher für die Kurzentschlossen zu empfehlen (wir haben die Tickets am Sonntag gekauft und sind am Montag zum Baumwipfelpfad gefahren).

Die Anfahrt hat problemlos funktioniert. Wir sind der Empfehlung der Betreiber gefolgt und haben „Cloef-Atrium“ in unser Navigationsgerät eingetippt. Im Ort selbst ist der Weg zum Baumwipfelpfad bzw. zu den Parkplätzen ausgeschildert. Es gibt zum Glück auch mehr als einen Parkplatz. Allerdings gibt es wohl keinen Parkplatz, der nicht kostenpflichtig ist. Insofern Kleingeld bereithalten. Wir haben auf dem Parkplatz in der Cloefstraße geparkt und dort hat uns das Tagesticket 6 Euro gekostet. Der Eingang zum Baumwipfelpfad ist von dort ungefähr 250 Meter zu Fuß. Ich muss gestehen, dass ich mit einem geringen Ticketpreis für den Parkplatz gerechnet habe. Vor Ort gibt es noch den Hinweis, dass man mit der App EasyPark parken kann. Insofern: die App runtergeladen, mit PayPal bezahlt und kein Kleingeld benötigt.

Der Baumwipfelpfad selbst startet direkt nach dem Eingang. Der Einlass ist leicht abschüssig und man beginnt bereits auf einer Höhe von 3 m. Auf dem höchsten Punkt befindet man sich auf einer Höhe von 42 m. Auf dem Geländer sind Schilder mit den Angaben zur Höhe angebracht. Die Steigung ist gering und man kann den Baumwipfelpfad bequem mit dem Kinderwagen oder einem Rollstuhl befahren. Der Pfad selbst ist relativ kurz und man verlässt nach ungefähr 30 Minuten leichten Spaziergang die Baumwipfel bzw. befindet sich an der Saarschleife. An der Saarschleife befindet sich dann der Teil des Pfads mit dem man Höhe macht. In Schlangenlinien erreicht man nach etwa 20 Minuten den höchsten Punkt und kann den Ausblick bewundern. Maskenpflicht besteht nur beim Einlass. Wenn man den Turm wieder runtergegangen ist, ist kurz danach der Baumwipfelpfad bereits zu Ende. Man verlässt den Pfad dann ziemlich weit unten in der Nähe des Aussichtspunkts an der Saarschleife. Wir sind dort noch hingelaufen und haben noch ein wenig verweilt. Der Weg dorthin bzw. zurück zum Parkplatz ist geteert und etwas steiler als der Baumwipfelpfad. Der Teil mit der Steigung und Anstrengung kommt also erst zum Schluss.

Insgesamt für uns ein sehr kurzweiliges Vergnügen. Es lohnt sich zwar und man kann den Baumwipfelpfad durchaus empfehlen. Unsere Erwartungen an den Pfad waren allerdings höher - zumal der Eintritt von 11 Euro für einen Erwachsenen schon durchaus gehoben ist. Einen zweiten Besuch werden wir eher nicht in Angriff nehmen. Falls es Ihnen wie uns geht und Sie für den Besuch des Baumwipfelpfads schon eher den kompletten Tag eingeplant haben bzw. am Ende noch überlegen wo Sie noch hingehen können, kann ich Ihnen eine Besuch von Saarburg ans Herz legen (Saarburg = das Klein-Venedig des Saarlands). Wir wollten unseren Kaffee nicht am Cloef-Atrium einnehmen und sind dann lieber noch ein paar Minuten weitergefahren. Es hat sich auf jeden Fall gelohnt den...

For the price, this is an excellent attraction, as you can spend many hours walking around. The main attraction for us was definitely the tree top walk and the viewing platform. The walk across the boardwalk has several interactive points for children, although I didn't see any information written in English. It isn't too strenuous, and inclines are suitable if you have a pushchair or a mobility walker so everyone can enjoy this experience. As the name suggests, you're walking at tree top heights, therefore thise who have issues with height don't look down. What i would say is, if you're ok with looking straight across at a view (opposed to down), definitely do this, as the views are to behold. On a clear day, you can see for miles, over the woodlands and river Sarr. I would also encourage everyone to slowly walk the boardwalk before the viewing platform, as there are many birds flying around and with many bird feeding stations on the route you are sure to see some beautiful little birds.
