Wonderful Day at Munich Zoo (Tierpark Hellabrunn) Our visit to Tierpark Hellabrunn, the Munich Zoo, was an absolute delight, despite the rainy weather. Situated along the scenic banks of the Isar River, this zoo offers a fantastic experience for visitors of all ages. One of the highlights of the zoo is its innovative "Geo-zoo" concept, where animals are grouped according to their geographic origins. This setup not only provides an educational experience but also allows for beautifully designed, naturalistic habitats that enhance the animals' well-being. We were particularly impressed by the variety of animals and the spacious, well-maintained enclosures. From the majestic elephants and playful monkeys to the captivating big cats and colorful birds, every exhibit was a joy to explore. The zoo’s efforts in conservation and education were evident throughout our visit, with informative displays and interactive experiences. Despite the rain, we had a wonderful time exploring the zoo. The park’s layout ensured that we could enjoy many exhibits under cover, and the vibrant atmosphere made the weather an afterthought. The zoo also offers plenty of amenities, including clean restrooms, a variety of food options, and numerous play areas for children. The on-site restaurant serves good meals for fair money, providing a nice break with delicious options to refuel. Overall, Tierpark Hellabrunn is a must-visit attraction in Munich. It’s a perfect outing for families, couples, and animal lovers alike. We left with lasting memories and a greater appreciation for wildlife conservation.

Well maintained with a good collection. Except for the Aquarium, all other exhibits have English notes in addition to German. The Primate world has a good collection of Chimpanzees, Gorillas. The chimpanzee enclosure is a bit too small and it would help to enlarge the enclosure and plant more trees. The Gorilla enclosure is ok. Addition of Rhesus. Macaques. Mandrills to the current primate collection would be nice The Aquarium has a great collection of Coralls. The shark tank is small. The collection of S American fishes are good. However, a lone octopus is not too good, a few would be nice in the interest of Animal health. AUROCHS has been reintroduced back from extinction and was a delight to watch. lonesome This alone makes it woeth the Trip There is a lonesome Siberian Tiger beautiful animal but alone, and the enclosure is too small and does not have enough vegetation.. Polar bear enclosure and Penguins are great but then again need a much bigger enclosure Same for the lions. Too small an enclosure ant the animals are pacing cos of stress... A v good zoo with scope for improvement. Worth spending an whole day here... 5-6 hours Recommended for visit

A truly wonderful, 5 star zoo. The space is large, but not wasted and there is so much to see. The animals look healthy and well cared for, with larger enclosures than I’ve ever seen really. The zoo also has animals that I’ve never seen before, such as hermit crabs, horseshoe crabs, maned wolves and polar bears. The animals are able to come quite close to you and seem to want to do so. I’ve never seen animals move around in a zoo so animatedly and it was truly lovely. We got to see some polar bears eating and a baby elephant playing with his family. One of the wild horses was also rolling in the dirt and having a play. We also saw some seagulls in the walk through aviary, which is funny to us, as they are super common everywhere in the UK. But I assume much less so in Munich! The amount of play areas for children and cafe / food options was also amazing. I would love to come back here. My photos are not great, I am sure that others can do this wonderful place justice. I’m just not a great photographer! I also think that compared to many attractions, this place is very good value for money. It was 18€ per adult when we visited.

The zoo is medium size if you're into animals but you won't miss out a lot at this zoo also. At Corona time some animals are off-limits but you still can see most. Parking cost 4 euro flat rate all day, but there is free parallel parking just nearby for just 4 cars. You can do more than zoo here, the Isa river is right there and when the weather is good you can do outdoor grill or hang hammock on trees. You also don't have to spend much on food if kiosks in zoo are expensive because there's Edeka nearby, stop and get your usual sandwich stuffs while coming from general stores in the area. Check in is fast and friendly, and English or German flier is available with maps. Bathrooms are nice, disinfectants available but expect free Wi-Fi. Animal are varied from all over the world but some of them are in such small place like the seal swimming reaches the end of the water in less than 10 seconds. I think for the amount they're charging they can do better (my opinion). Good number of family places to hangout or change or feed kids. It's a good zoo but don't expect a "wow" experience.

Description
Hellabrunn Zoo is a 40 hectare zoological garden in the Bavarian capital of Munich. The zoo is situated on the right bank of the river Isar, in the southern part of Munich near the quarter of Thalkirchen. A high ratio of enclosures are cageless, relying upon moat features to keep the animals in place.
