Museum Neuruppin — Attraction in Neuruppin

An excellent exhibition about Fontane and his work - it's creatively presented and the passion for Fontane that has been invested here is plain to see, with playful elements woven through the different rooms and exhibits. Whether you know a lot about Fontane's work, or not so much, you will find this an engaging and innovative exhibition. Let the museum know in advance if you're not a German speaker, as one of the English-speaking staff may be able to show you around - I was lucky enough to have a guide who was well-versed not just in Fontane's work but also his life and the local history of Neuruppin. All in all, is this worth the 1 hour train trip from Berlin? ... Absolutely, you won't be...

Die Restaurierung des alten Gebäudes ist gut gelungen. Die Küche im Keller ist aber keine "Schwarze Küche", nur weil der Rauchfang naturgemäß schwarz ist. Eine "Schwarze Küche" ist ein fensterloser Steinraum inmitten eines zumeist Fachwerkhauses, in dem die Befeuerung der Öfen und der Herde betrieben wurde, damit d. Feuergefahr nicht auf die Holzkonstruktionen übergreifen kann. Das kann mann sehr gut im Strohhaus von Neuzelle besichtigen. Die jetzige Ausstellung zum 200. Geburtstag von Th. Fontane ist schlecht und beweist, dass Literatur nicht ausstellbar ist. Der Ansatz ist grundsätzlich falsch. Schade, dass man die alte Ausstellung beseitigt hat. Sie war so herrlich altmodisch und liebevoll gemacht. Natürlich akademisch nicht genügend, aber genau das war ihr Charme. Der Neubau ist gut. Der neue Garten ist miserabel und ist nur als modischer Schnickschnack zu bezeichnen und eines Th. Fontanes nicht würdig. Nun war ich nach 5 Jahren erneut in diesem gut wiederhergestellten Haus. Die schwarze Küche ist unverändert falsch beschrieben. Dass die Küche ursprünglich in einem rötlichen Ton gestrichen war, wie man anhand der originalen Reste erkennen kann, wäre wichtiger zu erklären! Im Museumshaus in der Alexandrowka in Potsdam wurde eine rötliche Küche mit Rauchfang wiederhergestellt. A most enjoyable, informative small museum covering the history of Neuruppin going back several centuries. The complex consists of a beautifully renovated old building and tastefully done and integrated modern addition with changing exhibitions. We saw the Rene Sintenis show which was a joy. Sintenis spent most of her early life in Neuruppin so it was nice to see her get a show there. This museum is well...
