Heide Park Resort, located in Soltau, Germany, is the largest amusement park in Northern Germany and one of the most popular theme parks in the country. Spanning approximately 850,000 square meters, it offers a diverse mix of more than 30 attractions catering to thrill-seekers, families, and visitors of all ages.
A major highlight of Heide Park is its impressive collection of roller coasters. Signature rides include Colossos - Kampf der Giganten, once the steepest and fastest wooden roller coaster globally, reaching speeds up to 110 km/h, and the first wing coaster in Germany, Flug der Dämonen, which delivers thrilling inversions and high-speed excitement. Other notable coasters include Desert Race, a launched coaster accelerating riders from 0 to 100 km/h in seconds, and Krake, Germany's pioneering dive coaster.
The park is thoughtfully designed with themed areas such as Transylvania and Pirate Bay that immerse guests in distinct atmospheres, enhancing the overall experience beyond just the rides. For younger visitors, the Peppa Pig Land offers kid-friendly rides and interactive play zones, making it an inclusive destination for families. In addition, various water rides bring refreshing fun, especially during warm seasons.
Heide Park also features dynamic show programs including dolphin and sea lion performances, pirate-themed events, acrobatics, and stunt shows, adding to the entertainment variety and providing breaks from the rides. Seasonal events and festivals further enrich the visitor experience throughout the year.
Complementing the theme park is the Heide Park Adventure Hotel and Holiday Camp, where visitors can extend their stay. The Adventure Hotel features uniquely themed rooms inspired by pirates, Peppa Pig, and dragons (toothless from How to Train Your Dragon), among others, creating an immersive environment for families and children. The Holiday Camp offers cozy wooden cabins nestled in a relaxed atmosphere with amenities like sandy beaches, playgrounds, beach volleyball courts, and table tennis, catering to guests seeking a more nature-oriented stay close to the park.
Amenities within the park and resort prioritize guest comfort with ample dining options ranging from casual snack bars to full-service restaurants, parking availability, free Wi-Fi, and digital booking systems for rides and events, making the visit smooth and convenient. Visitors often appreciate the cleanliness, modernity of facilities, and attentive customer service of staff.
Reviewers commend Heide Park for offering good value, especially for families, with a broad range of attractions that cater to varied interests and age groups. The park’s natural woodland setting adds scenic beauty, creating a pleasant balance between thrilling rides and restorative nature spaces. While some visitors note queuing during peak seasons, the park manages crowd flow effectively and offers multi-day ticket options to...
Read moreThe park itself is great, there are a lot of coasters and big thrill rides. The entry price is very fair.
However, I wouldn't recommended going during vacation or on weekends. It's a big place sure, but the experience is degraded a lot with this many people there.
There are no Corona regulations, so there is no disinfection of the rides anymore and nobody cares to wear a mask. With so many people, it's a little uncomfortable.
The lines are very long. If you do go during vacation (or weekends), go twice. If you want to visit the big popular thrill coasters you will be waiting up to 2 hours. The lines are also incredibly boring, there isn't much theming, instead there is usually just zigzagged railing. This means that you are surrounded by people on all sides while waiting for a lot of rides.
You can buy fast pass options, however the app in which you do that does not load the corresponding page. It's also only really worth it if you pay 50+ € extra per person which will allow you to skip half the queue and spend your time somewhere else while virtually waiting.
The rides are pretty good, albeit often on the shorter side. The waiting to ride time ratio isn't great, but each ride has it's own gimmick and is quite unique and interesting to make up for it. If you get headaches easily, bring medication, because the rides I've tried were extremely rough. Some of them have head coushions, but they don't really help much. "LIMIT" and the Bobbahn are especially guilty of this, it makes the ride very unpleasant. Smaller attractions are not worth the wait usually, the queues go way beyond their intended start.
In terms of bathrooms and food, there was no problems even on this busy day. You can usually find a toilet without a line somewhere and the lines for the food were very manageable. There are unisex toilets but they are locked
There was a big wasp problem. It was a hot day and there was wasps everywhere. On every trashcan and every food stall, on you and on your food. One was trying to eat my food out of my own mouth, not pleasant.
My advice, pick a time that is not busy. Go when the weather is suboptimal, during the week, etc... and not on vacation. You can easily spend two days here, and you will have to...
Read moreHeide Park Review – Longtime Visitor, Disappointed by This Visit
My wife and I visited Heide Park during the Easter holidays. I've been to the park several times over the years—my first visit was in 2001 for the opening of Colossos—and I’ve generally had very good experiences. However, this time was a letdown, and I feel it's important to share constructive criticism—because this time, it felt more like a money-grab than a guest-focused experience.
Ride Availability Several major attractions were out of order or not operating among these was noticeable, Toxic Garden was completely closed, and Scream was unavailable for long periods. This created long queues at the remaining rides and left us feeling like we didn’t get the full experience—despite paying full price.
Queue Times & App Accuracy Queue times were very long—not just because of the holiday crowds, but also due to limited ride availability and slow loading. The app and signs often displayed queue times that were significantly shorter than the reality, which made planning difficult.
Transparency & Presentation There was no prior information about ride closures, and the website doesn’t clearly communicate what’s in operation. That’s a big issue for visitors traveling from afar. Some areas of the park could use a refresh, but that’s not my main concern—I come for the coasters.
Final Thoughts Driving a total of 10 hours for this experience was a disappointment. I hope Heide Park takes this feedback seriously and provides better transparency in the future. I still want to return someday—but this visit missed the mark for us.
Looking forward...
