I visited here a few years ago. An amazing piece of Stuttgart area fire fighting history. Allow yourself a few hours to take everything in and awe at the exhibitions. They have fire appliances from 1400's to recent times. And, the staff at the fire museum are actually full-time fire-fighters. They take it turns (I think a week or so at a time) to work at the museum. It is actually part of their roster. Apparently so they can learn about their history and don't forget their roots. There are so many fantastic exhibits here, not only fire trucks but an array of other things too, and so much information to learn from. It is definitely worth a visit. You'll be fascinated. The fire brigade and the fire-fighters do...
This large, 2-floor, 30m x 50m building has an excellent collection of 40+ large manual / automotive fire pumps from the past 300 years, but no steam-powered fire engines. There is also a large number (2,000+) of smaller items, nozzles, hoses, ladders, breathing air bottles, special tools.
The manual hand-pumped engines are well displayed on the 1st floor. Unfortunately, there is not enough space for all the motorized vehicles on the ground floor, and they are difficult to fully view.
Unfortunately for tourists, the electronic audio tour is only available in German.
A poor display choice was for the curator to add a 20 m2 area of American firefighter equipment. But the unforgivable choice was to add a wall dedicated to American movie firefighters. This is an insult to the thousands of Stuttgart men and women firefighters who have served their city. Why not use that space to tell their stories?
But this museum is well worth a...
