Best in the evening. Sunset from the tower is a mesmerising experience and don’t miss it. There are some bands and music happening and you can certainly grab some drinks there. Also, not that these events are not on a usual basis, so check them before you hit to this place. But a stroll around here is really a worthy experience.

Її будували тисячі фахових робітники (5—10к за різними джерелами), що отримували по 1,5 гульдена (близько 60€) за зміну та розвивали місцеву інфраструктуру (початки медичного страхування, на той час існувало 44 броварні в селищі Ульм). Німці (ульмці) зберігають свої культурні пам’ятки та дають їм життя в сучасності – тут відбуваються фестивалі, вистави місцевого дитячого садка тощо.

Wir haben die Festung am Tag "Tag der Festung" besichtigt. Eine wirkliche schöne und interessante Anlage. Ein großes Lob, an die Mitglieder des Förderkreis Bundesfestung Ulm e. V., die an verschiedenen Ständen interessante Information erzählt haben und stets freundlich waren. Ebenfalls die Führung von Herr Schnitzelbauer (ich hoffe ich habe mir den Namen richtig gemerkt), hat eine tolle Führung gehalten in der Wilhelmsburg. Die Bilder die ich hochgeladen habe, zeigen nur ein Bruchteil wie besonders die Anlage eigentlich ist. Lohnt sich aufjedenfall anzuschauen. Für Rollstuhlfahrer sind die Führungen und Besuche in der Festung meines Erachtens jedoch ungeeignet, da der Boden uneben ist und viele Gänge schmal sind. Am besten sich telefonisch bei den Mitarbeitern vorher informieren.

Die Wilhelmsburg, auch Werk XII genannt, wurde von 1842 bis 1849 unter dem Major von Erhardt erbaut. Sie war das stätkste Element in der Hauptumwallung und konnte bis zu 6951 Mann beherbergen. Wärend des zweiten Weltkrieges waren hier nur wenige Soldaten stationiert. 1944 wurde das Elektronenröhren-Werk von Telefunken in die Burg verlegt, wo verschleppte Zwangsarbeiter zur Arbeit genötigt wurden. Nach dem Weltkrieg waren hier unter anderem ein Flüchtlingslager für ausgebombte Bürger. Heute steht die Burg größtenteils leer. Der Innenhof wird gelegentlich für Events verwendet.

Imposante Festungsanlage, die in den 1840er Jahren erbaut wurde. Zahlreiche Schautafeln erläutern die Geschichte der Festung. Kein Eintritt, keine Führungen. Wenige Besucher, da es keine Wegweiser zu der Festung gibt und sich die Örtlichkeit ca. 3 Kilometer ausserhalb der Innenstadt auf einer Anhöhe befindet. Es gibt an der Festung einen Aussichtspunkt, von dem aus man einen guten Blick auf den Ulmer Münster hat. Etwas störend bei der Besichtigung war, dass im Innenhof der Festung der Aufbau für eine Veranstaltung im Gange war, daher konnte ich keine Fotos vom Innenhof machen.

Peaceful, canal-crossed Wilhelmsburg is distinctive for its eclectic architecture, which includes landmarks like the contemporary Science Center Wald with its sustainable larch wood facade, and the late-1800s buildings of the Reiherstieg quarter. While herds of sheep graze on the area's dikes, popular green recreational spaces include the meadows of Wilhelmsburger Inselpark and Heuckenlock Nature Reserve.
