Museum in the Schwedenbau - Local History and Arms Museum — Attraction in Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Oberndorf am Neckar

This is a fantastic little museum in Oberndorf am Neckar. As a fairly frequent visitor to Oberndorf and the surrounding area I always make a point to come see this museum. It basically 2 museums in one building, the Schwedenbau. This building was once part of the extensive Mauser weapons factory and one of the few original buildings still standing. One side of the building is the Baden-Württemberg museum which chronicles the history of the Baden-Württemberg region from stone age times to modern day. It's full of fantastic artifacts and information on the region. The other half is the Mauser weapons museum and is a much smaller footprint compared to the Baden-Württemberg side. It is however, packed with an amazing collection of arms from the beginning of weapons production in the region through the golden age of the Mauser works through to the modern weapons of Heckler & Koch which was started by former Mauser staff; and continues the weapons manufacturing tradition in the Oberndorf area. Ein wirklich tolles Museum in einem geschichtsträchtigen Gebäude. Im Gebäude selbst befindet sich zudem noch die Volkshochschule, eine Bibliothek, der Werkhof von Oberndorf und eben das Museum. Im Museum selbst gibt es eine Abteilung die sich mit Waffen beschäftigt, denn viele große Waffenhersteller kommen ja aus Oberndorf und im Gebäude selbst wurden einst ebenfalls Waffen hergestellt, die Waffen der Firma Mauser. Die Geschichte der Firma Mauser wird hier ausführlich erzählt und bildlich dargestellt. Selbst ein Oldtimer von Mauser befindet sich in der Ausstellung. Im zweiten Teil des Museums befindet sich das Heimatmuseum von Oberndorf. Hier geht's komplett um Oberndorfs Geschichte. Quasi von der Steinzeit bis heute. Sehr interessant und mit tollen Ausstellungsstücken. Ein Besuch ist absolut lohnenswert und mit 2 Euro Eintritt für Erwachsene auch erschwinglich. Kinder dürfen kostenlos rein. Das Museum ist außerdem barrierefrei und hat einen Aufzug im Gebäude. Vorm Gebäude gibt es kostenlose Parkplätze. Wirklich klasse. Ein Besuch lohnt sich. Für Kinder könnte man es vielleicht noch etwas interessanter gestalten durch eine "Kinder Rallye" oder so. Das wäre noch eine Idee um die Kids besser bei...

A nice museum, very underrated, with barely any visitors. The entrance fee is just 2 euros. An awesome collection of HK guns for someone who only saw them in computer games before.
