This magically nourishing Buddhist retreat center in the Master Thich Nhat Hanh Plum Village Tradition successfully propagate approachable teachings that focus on mindfulness and interconnectedness to alleviate the suffering of modern day beings. I attended a 7 day retreat in the healing space with 100+ others from all over the world, and benefited from the holistic program that covered all basis from Qi Gong, sitting meditation, Dharma talk (theory), guided meditation, work meditation, walking meditation, amazing vegan food, to numerous evening of sharing of experience and learnings from both monastics and retreat participants. All basis are covered! This relatable approach is well suited for a lay non denominational spiritual person. I cannot be more grateful to receive dharma teaching provided by some of the most senior monastics from Plum Village. I was honest Star stuck seeing them in action. It was such a blessing to be in the presence of these enlightened beings. That said, these monastics from the most senior to everyone else were so welcoming, down to earth, full of love and joy and do not at all take themselves too seriously!! Perhaps such harmony reflects how heaven will be. At the risk of repeating myself, I need to note again that the vegan food, much of it inspired by fresh Vietnamese cuisine were delicious!!! I need the monastics to make a cookbook ! Also of note is that the center is located in an old hospital for patients with mental health issues and later converted into a hotel by the Nazi Government. There were much suffering associated with this building but the Monastics have collectively created a loving peaceful place full of beautiful flowers transforming past suffering into harmony and joy.

I am truly grateful for the opportunity to attend the meditation retreat at EIAB. The environment is breathtakingly beautiful, with serene gardens that exude a deep sense of peace and mindfulness. This retreat has been a profoundly transformative experience for me, bringing immense calmness and clarity to my mind. The care and love I felt throughout my stay were truly heartwarming. Additionally, the vegetarian meals served were absolutely delicious, offering a wonderful variety of Western, Vietnamese, and Chinese cuisine. Not only was my spirit nourished, but my body also felt rejuvenated through the wholesome and carefully prepared meals. EIAB is a place of profound healing, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking inner peace and renewal.

For those especially western non-believers, beginners or laymen would be easier to get to know the Buddhism and Sangha. But on the other hand, after Winter Retreat I felt pity that there were no serious discourses and further lectures about Buddhism Sutras offered for disciplined practitioners who want to receive the deeper Buddha teaching and Samatha Bhavana training.

I am truly grateful for the opportunity to attend the meditation retreat at EIAB. The environment is breathtakingly beautiful, with serene gardens that exude a deep sense of peace and mindfulness. This retreat has been a profoundly transformative experience for me, bringing immense calmness and clarity to my mind. The care and love I felt throughout my stay were truly heartwarming. For those especially western non-believers, beginners or laymen would be easier to get to know the Buddhism and Sangha. Ich habe an dem 4-Tage-Retreat (Donnerstagabend bis Sonntagmittag) "Frieden in mir - Friede in der Welt" bei Alex teilgenommen, das für Einsteiger und Fortgeschrittene empfohlen wird. Es war mein erstes Retreat überhaupt, und es war genau das, was ich gebraucht habe.

In meiner Gruppe waren mehrere Menschen, die bereits öfter am EIAB waren, und auch ich möchte genau diesen Kurs in einem Jahr wieder besuchen, um die wertvollen Impulse aufzufrischen.

Unserer Gruppe (hälftig Männer und teils fast ohne Vorerfahrung) war bunt zusammengesetzt. Manche von uns waren in besonderen Lebenssituationen und wünschten sich Ruhe, Erholung und Klarheit, manche "nur" ihre Meditationspraxis erweitern und vertiefen. Ich habe das Praktizieren in der Gruppe als sehr unterstützend empfunden. Unsere Gruppe ist innerhalb anderthalb Tagen so zusammengewachsen, dass uns die Trennung am Sonntag schwer fiel.

Ich leider unter einer hohen Grundanspannung im Körper, konnte aber tatsächlich während des Retreats (und seitdem) mit einem meiner 2 pflanzlichen Nervenmittel pausieren und hab mich - körperlich und mental - so entspannt gefühlt wie selten.

Mein größter Wunsch zum Ende des Retreats war, dass ich von den hilfreichen Impulsen möglichst viele in meinen oft herausfordernden Alltag mitnehmen und dort anwenden kann. In dem Wissen, dass nicht die anderen sich ändern müssen, sondern dass Frieden in uns selbst beginnt. Mein Zwischenfazit 3 Tage nach dem Retreat: Natürlich bin ich jetzt kein neuer Mensch, aber es gelingt mir endlich (was mir selbst nach meinem 8-Wochen-Achtsamkeitskurs nicht geglückt ist - oder vielleicht war es die Summe aus beidem): Dass ich in Situationen (v.a. Kinder und Beziehung), wo ich aufgrund von Triggern nicht mehr klar denken konnte und im Automatikmodus reagiert habe, jetzt öfter / mehr bei mir bleiben kann. Indem ich diese "Kunst des Innehaltens" (und bewusstem Tun) weiter übe, kann ich unser Familienleben verändern.

Vor und zu Beginn des Retreats ich sehr stark aufgeregt/besorgt und angespannt (das schreibe ich für Menschen, die dazu ebenfalls neigen, die anderen Leser mögen diesen Block bitte überspringen): Sorge, dass mich die Summe der Menschen dort (es laufen mehrere Kurse parallel) überforden könnte: Dies ist nicht eingetreten, da es im Haus und im gemeinsam genutzten Speisesaal sehr ruhig zugeht und generell das Miteinander freundlich und rücksichtsvoll ist. Sorge, Regeln zu übertreten (aus Unwissenheit etc.): die wenigen Regeln werden in der ersten Runde erklärt. Es herrscht aber bei den Mönchen und Nonnen eine große Gelassenheit und Toleranz für Menschen, die sie während ihres Besuches nicht verstehen und/oder nicht umsetzen können (z.B. im Speisesaal erst nach dem 2. Gong aufzustehen zum Nachnehmen und auch noch dann für Gespräche hinauszugehen bzw. kurzen Austausch am Tisch nur zu flüstern.) Sorge, dass es Stress im geteilten Zimmer gibt: die Menschen, die sich auf den Weg ins EIAB machen, tun das, um Achtsamkeit und Mitgefühl zu erlernen bzw. zu üben. Die meisten dort würde ich ohne Bedenken zu mir nach Hause einladen ;-) Ich bekam am Freitag (als das letzte Retreat begann) eine sehr nette Zimmermitbewohnerin, mit der ich auch gern noch mehr Zeit gehabt hätte.

Tipp für Besucher in kühler Jahreszeit (nicht nur Frauen): Das Gebäude ist eher kühl, und auch der Speisesaal ist nicht auf T-Shirt-Temperatur. Deshalb: Denkt an dicke Socken, ggf. eine lange Unterhose/Leggings (v.a. unter dünnen Yogahosen) und ausreichend dicke Pullover, ggf. auch im Zwiebellook. Warme Matten, Sitzkissen und auch kuschelige Decken sind ausreichend vorhanden.

Zum Schluss auch nochmal einen Dank an unseren Kursleiter: Ich bin ein kritischer Geist, und viele Lehrer haben es nicht leicht mit mir. Alex hat mit seiner freundlichen und ruhigen Art und seinem klaren Geist genau die Atmosphäre schaffen und die Impulse geben können, die ich mir ersehnt und erhofft hatte.
