Absolutely beautiful. There are 2 places of worship on this site, the new and the old church so make sure to visit both. It is free to enter. They do close between 1 and 4 so avoid these times. Signs ask visitors to dress modestly which translates to elbows, knees and shoulders covered if possible. There is no car park but street parking is available directly outside. There are no guide books or Information plaques so the history is unknown unless you research yourself or pay for a local tour operator trip. There is a very fascinating story behind the saint that the monastery honours and so it is recommended that you learn a little about it before you go so that you can appreciate what you are looking at in the old church. I could not see a toilet and refreshments are not available

The monestary itself was really pretty. We went (coincidentally) in the middle of the event. While neither of us is religious, we can definitely respect and appreciate beautiful cultural experiences such as these. The building itself was really pretty, especially the paintings. Important to note, women with legs showing (I had shorts on) have to cover up by wearing a skirt (you can borrow one there). For men, this isn't an issue. If you like either religious events, you should go at the right time. For everyone who gets a bit overstimulated with lots of people there (and aren't coming for the priest), I'd recommend going later in the afternoon, when the building is almost empty.

Having missed the opening times earlier in the week, we were delighted to make our way into this magnificent church. It is truly breathtaking! Photos don't really do it justice. We had some quiet minutes taking everything in before more people came. Lots of parking, loos very basic. The website says that the big church is open in the afternoon, currently it isn't, so you need to visit before it closes at 1 Pm. This is a sacred place of worship so no shoulders or legs on display (men and ladies), they do have robes that use can use if necessary. We'll worth a jaunt up the hill to see the abandoned village too. Have fun!

Beautiful blessed monastary. Thank you to the amazing and kind nuns who take care of this holy place. Its grounds are so well kept. We were lucky enough to have the priest and nuns open the sacred Agios Gerasimos tomb/body, and we could give thanks and be blessed. We then went down into his cave where he lived, read, and studied. What an amazing story. It can get a little scary climbing down the steps, but even me, who is a little claustrophobic, did it and crawled through to his cave (and I'm in the bigger side, not thin). Well worth the trek to Kefalonia.

The Agios Gerasimus Church in Kefalonia, Greece, is a historic Orthodox chapel dedicated to Saint Gerasimus. Known for its serene countryside location, it houses the saint's relics, making it a pilgrimage site. The church features traditional Greek architecture and a holy well believed to have healing properties, making it a significant religious and spiritual destination on the island. I highly recommend visiting Agios Gerasimus if you ever landed in the island.
