So, I'm here at this incredible thermal pool in Greece, and honestly, it's like stepping into a postcard. The place is surrounded by nature at its finest, making you feel like you've stumbled upon a secret spot known only to the gods.

The water here? It's like liquid gold - full of minerals that make your skin feel rejuvenated. It's clear, inviting, though you can't help but wonder how often they keep it pristine.

Don't expect any fancy amenities; it's all about going back to basics here. No changing rooms or showers, so bring your own towel and maybe a change of clothes. It's part of the charm, really, this simplicity.

Crowds can be hit or miss. Some days, it's just you and the whisper of the wind, others, it's like everyone decided this was the place to be.

The experience, though - it's something else. The moment you sink into the water, it's like the world slows down. You can feel the stress melting away, the warmth seeping into your bones. Sure, the perfect day can be influenced by weather or company, but when it's good, it's like you've found a little slice...

Excellent hot springs in nature. It’s easily identifiable from the road as you can see the steam rising up. I would like to be able to call it a ‘hidden gem’, but unfortunately the secret is out as it is frequented by Greeks and foreigners alike.

Pros: Free to enter Free car parking available Where I entered, there were no manmade pools or structures, so you can sit amidst nature and view the mountains in the distance Quite clean and the temperature is comfortable

Cons/be aware of: Take care of your belongings as there are people walking around the area who seem suspicious. It may be somewhat crowded as I went in winter and even then, there were a decent number of bathers. No overtourism yet, but that might occur in peak season. As with all hot springs, be aware of the smell and potential discolouration of your bathing gear Be careful walking/climbing in the stream/spring as the rocks can be...

This is the broader part of the stream. There are multiple pools separated by small dams. Lots of parking around, lots of campervans. Watch for broken glass and rusty things and slippery banks as you enter the water. But it's all worth it, beautiful. The water is clear and even though it is a little smelly, it is not too bad. Make sure you look upstream for the view, not towards the road. The hottest part of the stream is not here, it's all the way upstream (maybe 8-10 minutes walk) but this is warm enough, for sure. You don't need to go to the upper part. This is also not the waterfall, which is located between this part and the top pool. If you bring your car key into the water, it might get tarnished. And rings too? The experience is better in cold weather, but there's no shower or changing rooms, so stepping out of the water...

Visited in March 2024 This was right across the road from the Statue to Leonidas. There were a lot of people camping here and it was fairly busy. The sulfur from the springs was very strong and people were enjoying the springs. We did not swim because we did not have a swimsuit but it would have been nice. Enjoyed seeing this historical place! Thermopylae means "hot gates", in reference to the presence of the hot sulphur springs in the area. The cavernous entrance to Hades, the underworld of Greek mythology, was said to be at Thermopylae. In one variation of the story of the Labours of Heracles, it was said that the waters at Thermopylae became hot because the hero Heracles tried to cleanse himself of Hydra poison in them.
