Visiting the Museum of National Resistance in Therissos was one of the most touching experiences I had in Crete. Tucked away in a small mountain village near Chania, the museum captures the incredible bravery and spirit of the Cretan people during World War II. From the moment I stepped inside, I felt a deep sense of respect and emotion. The walls are filled with photographs of local resistance fighters men and women who risked everything for freedom. Seeing their faces and reading their stories made history feel painfully real. There are old weapons, uniforms, secret printing presses, and even documents from the German Gestapo. Each object seems to carry the weight of the island’s struggle and the determination of those who refused to give up.
