Omalia Olive Press, a 4th generation business that was established in 1925, is a live olive oil factory that you can visit in Crete. You can see manual production machines as well as the currently modern technology that is used. You can learn about the entire process of making extra virgin olive oil and there is also a small tasting after the tour. The factory is an active-producing olive oil press and if you come in the late fall, early winter months, you can actually see all the machinery in work. The owner offers a free tour of the factory that includes videos of the entire process of making olive oil. This covers not only how the olive oil is made now but also the traditional method which is just ingenious. He's knowledgable, patient and speaks fantastic English (and I'm pretty sure he speaks more languages than that!).
