What a fantastic little find. We spotted it on the way to Psychro Cave and decided to stop on the way back. The owner offers a free tour of the factory that includes videos of the entire process of making olive oil. This covers not only how the olive oil is made now but also the traditional method which is just ingenious. He's knowledgable, patient and speaks fantastic English (and I'm pretty sure he speaks more languages than that!). There's a little shop as well where you can buy olive oil produced from his trees (very limited edition) and some other handmade products and cosmetics. I recommend it to everyone! The whole thing won't take longer than 30 minutes and is definitely worth it.

A very pleasant atmosphere, perfect for simply unwinding and enjoying the history of Greek olive oil. A friendly welcome with a brief introduction to the small family business. At the end, you can sample all the olive oil varieties, and of course, there's wine to try as well. If you find something you like, you can find it directly in the shop, where they sell cosmetics, spices, and, of course, oil. In my opinion, it's definitely worth a quick visit if you're interested in Greek history.

Omalia Olive Press, a 4th generation business that was established in 1925, is a live olive oil factory that you can visit in Crete. You can see manual production machines as well as the currently modern technology that is used. You can learn about the entire process of making extra virgin olive oil and there is also a small tasting after the tour. The factory is an active-producing olive oil press and if you come in the late fall, early winter months, you can actually see all the machinery in work. Current owners are on hand to do the tasting portion of the tour and it’s completely free to walk in and explore. We did end up buying some olive oil to take back - their rosemary infused olive...

On Sunday afternoon, by coincidence, we passed by the Omalia Olive Press. After a warm welcome, they offered us a free tour in order to understand the production process of the olive oil. It was very interesting and they are very patient and open towards all sorts of questions we raised. Afterwards, we were allowed to test different kinds of their olive oils. We gladly bought a few bottles of their delicious olive oil and we recommend this place to everyone who is interested in a great tour/lesson about olive oil and very high...
