The Temple of Artemis at Brauron is a fascinating archaeological site located in eastern Attica, Greece. The site was once a major sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Artemis, and it was home to a number of important religious festivals, including the Arkteia, a festival in which young girls were consecrated to Artemis for a period of time.

The temple itself was built in the 6th century BC, and it was one of the largest temples in Attica. The temple was destroyed by fire in the 3rd century BC, but it has been partially restored. Today, the site is still under excavation, but visitors can still see the remains of the temple, as well as a number of other archaeological features, including a sacred spring, a gymnasium, and a number of votive offerings.

The Temple of Artemis at Brauron is a beautiful and well-preserved archaeological site that offers a fascinating glimpse into the religious life of ancient Greece. The site is also a great place to learn about the role of women in ancient Greek society. If you are interested in ancient Greek history and religion, then I highly recommend visiting the Temple of Artemis at Brauron.

We found ourselves in Vravrona - or rather, in its secluded neighborhood hidden among the hills - where, in the 6th century BC, on a site already inhabited in the Neolithic era, a temple was raised and dedicated to Artemis. Time had concealed it so well that Greek archaeologists only brought it back to light in the 1950s. This was once a significant place of worship, connected to the Athenian Acropolis by a sacred road. Once every four years, a grand procession followed this route, ending at a stone bridge of unique construction, standing near the main temple. Today, the air here is filled with silence and calm. A spacious museum houses an extraordinary wealth of ancient fragments, each a whisper from a distant past. It is a place where you can truly feel the breath of millennia...

The ancient temple of Artemis and its museum is located in the area of Vravrona otherwise known as Brauron between the Athens Airport and the area of Porto Rafti. From where it is situated, it was found in a gully as it was almost covered in mud preserving its columns and the incredible statues of children from ancient times. The museum displays the artifacts found and the story behind it along with a variety of archeological statues of children from that period of time. I recommend seeing if you are driving in the...

If you near by, it's nice to visit this place, ticket includes both museum and the temple. It's not big, we were able to see it, read it etc all in 2.5h. The entrance is from museum so when you actually want to google it type " Archeological museum of Brauron" other wise, maps will guide you to the gates 15 min before and they're locked 😁 Btw it is closed Tuesdays;)
