This is a fantastic and unique place. If it wasn't so hot we could have stayed for much longer! We read that it was hot and to take water and wear a hat and long sleeved tops which we thankfully did as it was extremely hot with no shade. We also wore trainers as it is dusty and rough terrain with lots of stones. The amazing thing is that you get to wander freely around a whole town with very little fenced off to the public. We walked all over the town but didn't make the hike to the top of the mountain although some of the others on the boat did and said that the view was awesome. There are two toilets at the entrance and two at the museum. One vending machine for water and a small gift shop so take what you need with you. Don't feed the cats, the staff get very grumpy about this. Don't pick up ANYTHING from the floor even if it is on the path, you can be arrested and face a steep prison sentence for that. We didn't want a guide to show us around because I am slow and use two walking sticks and wanted to take my time. There's so much information on the internet I don't feel like we missed out on anything but if you want a local guide there's no need to book, local ladies walk up and down the entry que offering tours for a very...

LOCATED ACROSS THE ROAD FROM the now dry lake where legend places the birth of ancient Greek sun god Apollo, the Terrace of the Lions preserves the memory of what was once an imposing series of stone lions.

The original row of up to 12 (although there may have been as many as 16) stone lions was built around 600 BCE by the people of Naxos in honor of the god Apollo. The lions are faced East towards the Sacred Lake of Delos where Greek scholars of the time believed Apollo had been born. The lions seemed to have been placed in a position to either symbolically guard the site, or to simply inspire a sense of divine power to travelers on their way to Apollo’s shrine...

Everyone has to visit the crossroad of ancient civilizations. This was the "new york" of ancient times. As the centre of commerce and trade of the ancient times, all wealthy people have to have a house in this island along with a temple in which they were worship. The experience was a revelation.

We were ones of the lucky ones that were hosted in one of our relatives (archaeologist) houses and we didn't have to leave the island in the same day. One of the best memories I...
