Delos is where its at! Want to almost time-travel to ancient times?? History geek?? Well, hop on a boat and spend the day at Delos. Its an archeological site, the entire island is the site itself and its protected. Perfect way to spend an early morning while its still cool. Super close to Mykonos, so you will be back by early afternoon/evening. Recommend getting a private or group tour so you get to hear the historical background and stories. Its just an incredible feeling and stepping back in time to see how people lived, what homes looked like and so on. Please please do not abuse the site; some tourists were riding the lions and some of the rocks for selfies. I wonder how they would feel if someone went to their country and started riding, and abusing their precious monuments. These are not props, its real history people, have some respect. There is a cafe, but tour takes a while and you will get hungry; so take some food/snack and water with you. Can't recommend it...
Read moreDelos was such a fun adventure! We took a yacht outing that we booked through Viator and we got to have a tour of Delos as part of it. We had a guide explain the history of Delos and even some of the new restoration that has been taking place to preserve the history. We were given the option to go to the top of the mountain overlooking Delos and we jumped at the opportunity. I would definitely recommend climbing the mountain because you get a fantastic 360 degree view of the area and can even see Mykonos from the top! We had to get back to our boat so we walked through most of Delos briskly but I would say to stop in the museum to take a look at the actual stone lions. We were told the ones outside were not the original lions. Overall I’d strongly recommend this outing to Delos if you are fortunate enough to be...
Read moreIncredible site that is a must see if in the area. We took the ferry from the port of Mykonos and then bought our tickets when we go to the island. There is nothing on the island except the archaeological sites, so make sure you take any water and snacks with you - we couldn't get anything on the island!
The map given doesn't provide much information, but the informational panels at the different temples, neighborhoods, theaters, etc. provide a wealth of information on the use and history of the buildings and islands.
We were on the island for about 3 hours and wish we had more time. You can easily spend 5 hours here if you want to be able to explore all of the...
