Erimokastro — Attraction in Municipality of Rhodes

Only 3 stars because this hike and I were engaged in a fight to the death. First, mad props to the hikers here who climbed to the top and maintained a rather laissez-faire attitude about their impressive accomplishment. Also, had it not been for your reviews, I’d probably still be up there, just me and the dead mountain goat, looking for the ‘right’ trail. Seriously, you folks are out of my league. I could never find THE trail, but just climbed behind the hut and aimed up. I did, however, find the area described where the smooth rocks/stream was, so I knew when the real fun was about to start. If that was a simple rock scramble for you, I bow to your physical prowess and obvious Velcro, clawed hands. I found it to be a tortuous, punishing and frankly scary exercise in extreme stubbornness (I was going to see that column if it killed me, you and the entire island after all that work and the smell of dead mountain goat deep in my nose hairs for life). But I did it! Scratched from head to toe, bloody everywhere and suffering from heat exhaustion, I conquered that Acropolis taunting me with its column. In all seriousness, I am maybe not the elite hiker I imagined myself to be....

Fantastic views, flora, birds and butterflies on the top. You’ll need sturdy shoes and trousers. The path can be seen on google satellite images. Use this to make sure you are on the right path. There are lots of goat paths that mislead. To find the path go through the pallet gate to the right of the goat hut and walk uphill behind the hut. The path winds its way uphill for a hundred metres and then joins a stream bed of smooth rock. The last hundred metres swings up and to the right taking you to a steep tumble down section of wall. Erimokastro, czyli w tłumaczeniu: "opuszczony zamek" znajduje się na ~ 400-metrowym wzniesieniu pomiędzy zatoką Ladiko, a plażą Traganou. Ciekawa trasa na wieczorny spacer. Samochód pozostawiamy przy drogowskazie do Villa Pasithea i wędrujemy w kierunku wzgórza. Po drodze, w krzewinkach przycupnęły dwie wieżyczki czołgów. Na jednej widnieje znajony napis: "Rudy 102" . 😉 Podążamy w kierunku wyznaczonym przez drogowskaz do 'climbing sectors'. Przechodzimy przez furtkę i idziemy wzdłuż zbocza, które wieczorem daje przyjemny cień. Po drodze, w górującej po prawej stronie skale dają się zauważyć dwie duże groty oraz liczne stanowiska wspinaczkowe. Dochodzimy do miejsca skąd rozpościera się panorama na plażę Afandou i okolicę. Wspinamy się na szczyt wzgórza, gdzie znajdują się pozostałości starożytnego akropolu. Według legend wznosił się tu w późniejszych czasach...
