Generally speaking, it’s a nice place with nice views. I do believe the monastery is more beautiful during the summer. We were here in may, the flowers and plants weren’t yet blooming so the place seemed a bit grey and boring. The entrance to the monastery costs 6 euros which on one hand isn’t much but on the other it doesn’t give you much. Honestly I wouldn’t judge anyone if they skipped the monastery part and went the other way to the cross and scenic view of Rhodes. Much more worth it + free. The entrance to the monastery is free for people under 25 from Europe. People under 25 outside Europe pay half price. There’s a small shop with drinks and candy which is super cheap so that’s a plus. There are Indian peafowls and pheasants running around freely but they seem calm and aren’t attacking tourists. A good and productive option is to go there by foot, the satisfaction you get once you make it to the top is unreal. However most people get there by cars. There’s a bus stop at the top but during spring (may) no buses were going there, so maybe in the summer when the tourist period starts. Worth the visit...
Read moreWe really liked Filerimos Monastery. Visited from Lassysos, took a taxi up there, it’s 1 road going up to a steep hill. Tickets were £6 per adult, children are free. We walked around the grounds, gorgeous buildings & view, very peaceful, loads of flowers, bees. Peacocks are amazing, they are everywhere.
There’s no step free access. I think you could get around with a buggy - lifting it up in places, but wheelchair wouldn’t work. Toilets are available- ok condition, not the cleanest. Walk around the grounds, there’s so much ground to cover. I guess you need 2/3 hours if you don’t want to rush it. There’s a cute shop with souvenirs & some snacks & drinks. Don’t forget to check out the massive cross. The buildings are inhabitable, no monks living there at the moment. We walked down, following the road. It was 1.5 hours to get to our hotel, very nice walk & the road not too busy. Would...
Read moreThis place is so amazing and beautiful. You will find some ancient ruins, medieval ruins and the monastery is just next to them. Incredible how the old mixes with the new. The first thing you notic right from the entrance, that is at the bottom of the hill, are the strange noise. As you proceed up the hill you will discover that those are peacocks. This makes the whole experience even more mystical. At the back of the monastery you will find some more ruins and as you walk around you will finally get to the balkony like place that is overlooking a huge part of the island. The views from that place are stunning. In order to get there it's probably best for you to take a taxi, it won't be very expensive or buy an excursion, unless you have a car. The whole complex is so beautiful and strange quiet (despite peacocks) you won't regret...
