Excellent local museum in the island of Lesvos, in the vicinity of the beautiful village of Sigri. The location is far from the city of Mytiline, reachable via a country road with many turns, going up and down a mountain. The landscape on route reminds of a moonscape, being all rock and with almost no vegetation. The museum was build as an addition to the petrified forest park around it and its advisable, before you go around, to watch the short time presentation in the museum, because it gives an explanation and meaning to what you 're about to see in the park. Wear a hat, sunscreen and sturdy shoes. Entrance fee: five euros. There is a nice cafe in the premises, also selling local herbs, spices, teas, homemade mermalades and 'glyka tou koutaliou'. Before you leave the area, take time to visit the village and take a swim in the crystal...

I had the incredible opportunity to visit the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The museum beautifully preserves and presents ~18 million years of natural history in a way that is both engaging and educational. With its thoughtfully designed indoor exhibits and breathtaking open-air displays nestled in the stunning mountainous landscape, the museum offers something meaningful for visitors of all ages. I highly recommend everyone, regardless of age or background, to visit this remarkable place and explore the wonders of our planet’s...

Excelent. It's a very good museum. The attention is good. It's worth it a visit. It's a pity that the park can not be visited. It's been closed for years and they are still working for preservation. We travelled a very long distance from Argentina to visit the park and unfortunately we couldn't pay a visit. But the museum it's worth a visit and the landscapes around are amazing. We found a party of scientifics working on site and discovering some trunks by the road. It was a good experience chatting with one of the women unearthing beautiful huge pieces of...

This is such a well presented and curated museum and of the quality of museums in major cities including London in my opinion. Very impressively presented whoever is responsible. Not huge but plenty of information packed into the museum spaces. Thoroughly recommend visiting the museum before going to see the Petrified Forest so you can understand better what you are witnessing in the forest. Lots of information and exhibits not only about the forests and fossils but more broadly about geology and earthquakes, tectonic plates etc.
