Archaeological Site of Ancient Trikke ("Asclepieion") — Attraction in Trikala Municipality

Some of the ancient ruins of Trikki remain here. They are still excavating and some areas are covered with work going on underneath. Trikki used to be one of the famous medical centers in ancient times. If you google it, you will find lots about the place in the net. An archaeological site that’s abandoned It is one of the few archaeological sites of ancient Trikki. It is known as Asclepius, but it is not sufficiently documented. It appears to be a porticoed public building, perhaps a gymnasium, of the classical/Hellenistic period. In the next phase, a bath was built with hypocausts from the late Roman period. Η σύγχρονη πόλη των Τρικάλων ταυτίζεται με την αρχαία Τρίκκη, πρωτεύουσα της τετραρχίας Εστιαιώτιδας που καταλάμβανε την περιοχή της Δυτικής Θεσσαλίας. Τα σωζόμενα κατάλοιπα της αρχαίας Τρίκκης βρίσκονται στο κέντρο της σύγχρονης πόλης των Τρικάλων, ΝA του Κάστρου. Στο χώρο εντοπίζονται τα κατάλοιπα τεσ-σάρων οικοδομημάτων (τμήμα κτιρίου και στοάς ελληνιστικών χρόνων, τμήμα λο-υτρού ρωμαϊκών χρόνων και μεσοβυζαντινός ναός). Η αρχαία Τρίκκη, εκτεινόταν ανάμεσα στον ποταμό Ληθαίο και στο λόφο "Κάστρο" όπου πιθανότατα βρισκόταν η αρχαία ακρόπολη. Στην πόλη υπηρχε ένα από τα παλαιότερα ασκληπιεία για το οποίο ήταν γνωστή η αρχαία Τρίκκη κατά την αρχαιότητα. Η αρχαιότερη γραπτή μνεία της Τρίκκης βρίσκεται στον ομηρικό κατάλογο νηών, όπου αναφέρεται ότι η πόλη συμμετείχε στην εκστρατευτική δύναμη των Ελλήνων στον Τρωικό πόλεμο με 30 πλοία και αρχηγούς τους δυο γιους του Ασκληπιού, Μαχάονα και Ποδαλείριο, οι οποίοι είχαν διδαχτεί από τον πατέρα τους την...
