Trails were pretty well marked. I was a little more cautious and observant since I'd never been here.
What they give you isn't so much a trail map but a guide to the features of the gardens. While a map of the mountain and jungle trails would be cool it's not really needed at least for the mountain trail. I didn't do the jungle trail. It was shoulder season so I stopped off in one of the huts and sat for a minute. Just breathing in the smells of the jungle. Remembering that I didn't have to be anywhere at any moment today. There was no schedule. No boat to catch. No PSI gauge to watch. I paid my $15 to get in and I can stay as long as I want till they close. In fact, I think I'm the only person here that doesn't work here. I met Bill who runs the place on my way out. He is a kind and knowledgeable man and I'm glad I ran into him. Make sure to say hi and have a chat when you come. This place is a must! And you have to see the cannonball tree! Flowers are amazing and they smell wonderful! Oh, and they teach how to make chocolate here from the cacao tree that hangs over your head as...

BUT Bill definitely needs to RETIRE VERY SOON... and sell the property and let the NEXT GENERATION of environmental conservationist take care of this beautiful property.
Just feel like everything is stuck in the 90s. For example I send a WhatsApp message to the number as found on THEIR website. Two days after absolutely NO response I physically showed up to their property and had to have the Spanish-speaking front desk employee wake up Bill Bradley who is SLEEPING in a nearby hammock. I told Bill that I had sent a message but hadn't never received a response. Bill said ... in HIS personal words .. "I do not know how to check my WhatsApp." ... Once I helped Bill to figure out how to open up his WhatsApp there was 22 UNREAD messages.

We had a great time exploring the garden at our own pace. At times, it felt more like a nature reserve than a garden. This place is huge!!
Be advised that the price for the visit got bumped from $10 to $15 (the website is not up to date).
We got lost at times because the map wasn't 100% up to date either (for example, we couldn't find the poinsettias, but later learned they had died). There are many trails that simply don't appear on the map, which doesn't do this place justice in our opinion since there was clearly a ton of effort put into building and maintaining these trails.
Bring good shoes and watch out for ticks, explore beyond the main trail and you'll have a great time here. If you make it to the top of the mountain, you'll be rewarded with a beautiful view of the Ocean and...
