UPDATE This is my second review of the Sunken Fish. I come with a group to Roatán at least once a year. When it comes to restaurants we have our old standbys where we know what we will get. We tried some recommendations that were hit and miss or flat out disappointing. The Sunken Fish does not belong in that category. First off the atmosphere and scenery are first class (except that one speaker IYKYK😆). The staff are top notch and professional. Attentive, with a great knowledge of the restaurants offerings and more than willing to ask questions to help make decisions. We ran the gambit on the appetizers (we're a group of 14). The preparation, presentation, and flavor of each was amazing. The lobster croquettes are a must have (we ordered all they had left), the carpaccio was incredibly good, as was the tuna tartar. The cocktails were next level with their handmade syrups, spectacular garnish and week thought out flavor profiles. They can match a cocktail to whatever your liking. Whether it be light, floral and refreshing or something complex and rich with a spicy kick. Are group has decided the best Monkey Lala on the island is at the Sunken Fish. The cocktails alone had one of our party suggesting they should change the name to the "Drunken Fish". The main courses do not disappoint. I had the pappardelle al ragu. The pasta was fresh made and the ragu was rich and flavorful. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their selections. The desserts were also not a disappointment. We go to our favorite restaurant tonight, but the bar has been set and we may very well have a new favorite. They will be hard pressed to beat the experience at the Sunken Fish.
Some of the best dining on the island. Great atmosphere being situated right on the beach with a great wait staff. Our waiter made some excellent suggestions and made us aware of a couple items not on the menu. They had a new head chef, which brought along a new menu. That being said they eagerly accommodated members of our party that wanted items from the previous menu. We were well...
Read moreMet some friends for dinner here one night, there were 6 of us. They had come several times and had decent experiences but had been out of chocolate syrup for the Monkey Lala drink. Our friend asked if they had gotten the chocolate syrup, and the waitress taking our order said they did have chocolate syrup. So she ordered a Monkey lala and so did i. When everyone was finished ordering i asked if i could change my drink but she said no it had already been sent to the kitchen. So i ordered an additional drink. When she came back with the drinks, already made on her tray, she informed us that they were out of chocolate syrup and 3 monkey lalas had been made with cherry syrup. She asked if we still wanted them. I immediately said no. When we got the bill she still wanted us to pay for the drinks that were not what we ordered. She said she would be responsible for paying for them. I think this is a terrible company policy to hold, especially after I tried to change/ refuse the drink. I feel bad for the sever but its not the customer’s fault for a bad company policy. I would recommend management look for a better strategy to support their employees and customers. Also, i guess it was a busy night with one server and one back server working. The kitchen must have been way under staffed as well since the food took about an hour to come out. I understand we were a “large”group but if it is a resort they should definitely look into having more staff to accommodate. The food was not worth the wait or the stress of the experience. Would not recommend this...
Read moreYou wouldn’t think much of this place just by looking at the sign off the main road. I was expecting a dive bar vibe, but the restaurant is actually gorgeous and super high quality. We visited after our Airbnb host gave us recommendations for vegan-friendly restaurants.
The restaurant is part of Tranquilseas Resort, a quiet little operation right off the beach in Sandy Bay. It’s an outdoor terrace, almost like you’re hanging out in an upscale treehouse overlooking the water. The atmosphere is beautiful.
We did not have reservations and were immediately seated. The staff were incredibly kind and pleasant. I was shocked and amazed to discover that a resort restaurant actually had quite a handful of 100% vegan options, and not just basic iceberg lettuce salads—decadent, flavorful options. They even had bananas foster as a dessert, and one other option. Even if a place has vegan options, I’m not used to them having vegan dessert options! Bravo. I was seriously impressed.
I only got to dine here twice, but I would love to go back if I found myself in Roatan again to try more of their offerings. The curry was scrumptious, and the bananas foster was incredible! My partner eats meat and loved his fish. We actually came back a second time just to have the dessert after we’d eaten somewhere else.
I am so impressed and delighted that a resort restaurant would offer so many quality vegan options. Well done!!
Shout out to Franklin who was our excellent server. He...
