I recently visited the market in Fonyod that offers an excellent variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. It's a great place to indulge in the flavors of local produce and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. The abundance of fresh and flavorful offerings truly impressed me.
However, when it comes to tourist goods like towels, toys, and fashion items, I noticed that the prices were generally fixed and not negotiable. This seemed to be the case, especially for tourists. It was a bit disappointing not to have the option to haggle and find better deals. Perhaps more flexibility in pricing would enhance the overall shopping experience for visitors.
On a positive note, the marketplace exuded a friendly and happy ambiance. The vendors and local residents were welcoming, creating an enjoyable atmosphere for shoppers. It was refreshing to experience the warmth and hospitality of the people in the marketplace.
Nevertheless, one aspect that detracted from my overall experience was the presence of pet selling. While I understand that this may be a common practice in some marketplaces, I believe that animal welfare should hold greater importance. The well-being and proper treatment of animals should be a priority, and it would be beneficial to enforce stricter regulations in this regard. I deducted one star from my rating due to this concern.
Note: The opinions expressed in this review are based on my personal experience and observations. It's possible that the marketplace may evolve and address the mentioned concerns...
Read morePlenty of choice of fresh seasonal vegetables and fruit. Bakery products are also available, though to a minor extent (the selection is still decent). The place is quite big in size, and a good chunk of it is dedicated to memorabilia, and second hand stuff (from books and tea sets, to extremely niche items, such as war relics). There's also a section dedicated to clothing and random hardware (DIY, Gardening, etc). A few options to grab a local bite are also available (langos, kenyerlangos, kurtoskalacs). Cold cuts and dairy products' vendors are to be found near the entrance. Been there a few times, never noticed there's a section dedicated to the business of live animals, which I've been reading about from other reviewers. On a sunny day the place gets warm quickly due to the lack of natural shadow in the surroundings, therefore I can only share the same concerns raised by other reviewers in regards to the questionable conditions those poor animals have to sustain. Last but not least, it tends to get way too crowdy for my taste during high season (Summer), and in general over the weekend. The place is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays - if you want a quiet(er) experience I do suggest a visit on a Wednesday, when the place is generally...
