József Attila Museum of Makó — Attraction in Makói járás

The Museum of Mako looks unassuming from the outside with a simple facade right next to the Mako City Hall. Upon entering you are greeted by friendly hosts eager to show you their collection. Admission is free if one is staying at a “partner” hotel. They even looked for an English speaking guide to show me the exhibits. József was very knowledgeable and patient showing me their exhibits which range from wonderful photographs taken by a famous Hungarian photographer which spanned the first floor to the second floor which showed the chronological history of Mako and Hungary. One will see beautiful and colorful traditional garments, with various rooms showcasing furniture and objects from a bygone era to Mako and Hungary’s development into the independent nation we know now. One would think that this is all to see but for me the exhibits outside were more interesting. Coming out of the main museum to a garden one will see several structures, these depict actual houses of peasants, with storage “units” for grains or crops. There was also a blacksmith and carpenter’s work area. A structure was dedicated to the life of onion farmers. Several rooms showed the process and implements used in onion growing and the roles each person played during harvest. József would not only answer each question I asked but would also add more interesting details. It is a wonderful museum staffed by Hungarians eager to show their beautiful country, history and traditions. A must see place especially for those interested in learning about this great city...

A múzeum egy igazi sokszínű utazás a múlt különböző koraina. Látható most itt a József Attila kiállítás, egy eredeti Ford T-modell (Galamb József makói származása okán), van helytörténeti, festmény kiállítás, mini skanzen, s némi szoborpark is. József Attila makói éveiről igen sok minden megtudható (a hangos installációk sajnos nehezen érthetőek), a T-modell egy csoda (mint megtudtuk ma is működőképes), az udvaron lévő szántalpas gabonás kasok igazi kuriózumok országosan is, az emeleti festmények lenyűgözőek. A személyzet mindenhol nagyon kedves, sok érdekes információt ad. Ezt a múzeumot...

Igazán kimerítő és tartalmas gyűjteményt volt lehetőségünk végigjárni. Szerintem 2-2,5 órát biztosan végigsétáltunk. Nem csak József Attilára vonatkozó személyes tárgyak, kordokumentumok vannak itt kiállítva, de a második emeleten és kint a szabadban álló házakban komplett szobák vannak berendezve a kornak megfelelő autentikus használati tárgyaival, bútoraival, felöltöztetett bábukkal. Idegenvezetőnk válaszainkra is rögtön próbált felelni. Aki szereti a régi autókat, az örülni fog a kiállított Ford T modellnek és a történetének. Egyszer mindenkinek érdemes...
